This choice: Keith awakens in a strange land, and he's a ball of tentacles! • Go Back...Chapter #2Land of monsters. by: Gimlet Slowly consciousness returns to Keith, his vision waving in and out in odd patterns. Deep blue sky indicates evening, but... it looks oddly more even across the sky. Uh, he guesses he's on his back looking up? Everything feels wrong, twisted, as if his body was both numb and super sensitive at once.
Glancing down a bit he looks to his right and sees what looks like a forest, but it's very odd. Trees certainly, brown trunks reaching up, though not far, but then there are no leaves, the branches splitting and weaving into neighboring trees, forming a thin layer of interwoven branches, all at the same height. It looks like a huge, open plan, meshed roof. Where on Earth was he?
Turning to his left there are a series of small splotches of purple, squinting they look like fuzzy lumps, till he realizes they are bushes of some sort, with deep purple leaves. The ground slopes down smoothly, and looking beyond the odd bushes he sees softly rolling plains, short yellow grass covering the fields evenly for miles around.
Why does he feel so... out of sorts. What was the last thing he remembered? Oh yeah, going past that college. What the heck was that? It was almost like a hallucination or something. And where was he?
He felt... wrong, but still struggled to get up off his back... and... flailed! Things went everywhere. Arms? Legs? He couldn't tell, but it all felt such a mess! He may have screamed a little, but then felt himself tip over, rolling head over heels... sort of, and... kept going! With a lurch he felt himself rolling down hill, and it felt oddly smooth, like he was tucked into a ball or something! Yelling he tumbled down, the yellow grass oddly soft as it flew by under him.
Tumbling faster and faster down the hill he saw jumbled glimpses of things as he flew past. More odd trees, this time with purple leaves he thought. A few boulders. A river far off to his right he thought, and... what the heck was that? The jumbled spinning view as he rolled on looked like a disk of purple, with something poised in front of it. The shape he couldn't make out, almost like an anemone or something, red tendrils waving around. With the jostling he couldn't make it out quite, but it looked like the thing went into the disk and vanished.
He could barely concentrate on that however as he still rolled down the hill, the ground flattening out finally at the bottom. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
