After what Luke deemed to be an appropriate amount of time, he slightly kicked his feet to nudge Jacob off of them. Because the sneakers were so new, and kept in such pristine condition up to the moment when Luke put them on, Jacob's "cleaning" of the sneakers was more of a power-move by Luke, showing his dominance over his inferior brother.
Jacob remained kneeling, looking down at his younger brother's sneakers. Luke towered above him crossing his arms, scoffed, and told Jacob, "You're free to go."
The older Markinson looked up at Luke, who wasn't even looking at Jacob anymore. Luke was already looking off into the distance with a smug look, thinking of the next thing he would do. Jacob rose to his feet, and as gently as he could, scooted to his right (Luke's left) and attempted to pass Luke in the stairwell.
However, Luke's wide shoulders covered the entire width of the stairwell, so Jacob had to wedge himself between his little brother's mighty deltoid and the wall. Jacob could argue that Luke's delt was more solid than the wall. Luke simply stood there, not even acknowledging Jacob's struggle. Jacob was now so far deep between Luke and the wall that he was struggling to breathe.
"Luke... I... I can't..." Jacob pleaded.
Luke scoffed. He moved his body a few inches to his right, and his boulder-shoulder made a large, round dent in the wall. Jacob squeezed past, gasping for air and tripping on the next step.
"You'll need to fix that." Luke nudged his head towards the dent. He continued down the steps and off on his way. Jacob winced in pain as his knees slammed against the steps hard when he fell. Hit with a wave of resoluteness, he got to his feet and went to his room to find the pearl.
Passing Luke's much nicer room, Jacob came to his own unmodified and normal looking room. He sped to his bedside table right where he had left the pearl, ready to make a wish... but it was gone! Where could it have gone?! The one chance Jacob had to rectify the past years of torment he and his family had endured from Luke, was gone! Perhaps it had rolled off somewhere. He looked under his bedside table, his bed, the closet... it was nowhere to be found.
