Chapter #3

Personality Copier Machine

    by: Hellexia Author IconMail Icon
Rachel had just finished what she thought was her magnum opus. Finally, there was a good way to "walk a mile in someone else's shoes" with the device. By touching the device's button on top, a golden mechanical egg-shaped object with a small button on top, the user's personality would be copied, placed in whoever touched the device next. However, the exact specifics still had to be ironed out when the device was out of the testing phase.

Thankfully for Rachel, the testing phase was going to begin almost immediately: as Josephine walked right into her "lab" and curiously looked at the egg-shaped device. Tilting her head out of curiosity, the "aunt" of the house reached forward and pressed the button on top before Rachel could stop her. Almost instantly, the button split apart and a sucking sound was heard as Josephine was sucked into the device in an instant.

Rubbing her chin, Rachel wondered what had happened: it was supposed to copy the person, not absorb them. Knowing that as long as she didn't press the button on top, she would be fine, Rachel took the device and placed it on the kitchen table. Someone was bound to touch it eventually, Rachel could watch the next events with her hidden cameras. Running back to her "lab", Rachel stared at the monitors on her wall as she watched the device shake and stir every now and then.

Meanwhile, Josephine was bewildered at the events. One moment she was in Rachel's room, the next moment she was in this lounge-looking place with golden walls. With smooth jazz and comfy seats, Josey figured she would just take a nap, it had to be a dream or something. Just as she shut her eyes, she heard a loud alarm noise and a TV materialized in front of her confused face. Staring at her through the TV was the interested face of Maisie, who picked up the device and pressed the button on top.

"Oi! What the hell?!", Came out of Maisie's mouth, as her hand shot up and pressed her fingers up to her lips. "Wut? Where am I? Why am I Scottish?!"

Now in control of Maisie's body was Josephine, wondering how she got into the kitchen and why she sounded like Maisie all of a sudden. Before she could investigate, Valerie walked into the kitchen and grabbed Maisie's arm asking "Are you okay sis?", concerned as to what "Maisie" was doing.

Josephine watched as time seemed to slow down and a robotic voice asked: "User. Do you wish to transfer? Do you wish to stay? Return to the device? Return to normal?"

Wondering what was going on as Valerie's words slowed down to slurring syllables, Josephine decided to answer:...
