Anna keeps sniffing to find out where that scent is coming from. She turns her head to the right, and she finds out where the scent is coming from: Jessie, breathing with her mouth open.
Jessie has light-brown hair that goes up to her shoulders and tanned skin. She is dressed in a yellow, baggy hoodie and capri pants. She was sucking on a breath mint, which explains the minty smell.
Normally, Anna would literally stick her nose in situations by continuously sniffing the scent, but this time, she didn't want to creep out the kids in the SCAS, so she nudges Jessie's shoulder with her elbow.
Jessie wakes up, stretches, and gives out a yawn. She notices that most of the class and Mr. Kintobotnik are nowhere to be found. The only other people who are here are Olivia, Brooke, and Anna.
“Hey, where is everybody?” Jessie asked Anna.
“They went on a field trip to my nose,” Anna answered. “They're live streaming the field trip so I can see the action.”
Jessie watches the live stream on Anna's phone.
Back in Anna's nostril, Mr. Kintobotnik flies the SCAS out of the nasal hairs to show the class what's caught in them. In her right nostril, there were dead skin cells, different kinds of bacteria, a couple of flu viruses, yellow fluff balls, and tiny bugs.
Anna and Jessie, watching the livestream, looked shocked.
“THAT'S what my nose hairs captured?' Anna asked.
“Yup!' answered Mr. Kintobotnik.
Back in the SCAS, Chester asked, “Mr. Kintobotnik? What are those bugs? And what's the yellow stuff?”
“That yellow stuff is pollen,” answered Mr. Kintobotnik. “As for the bugs, they are dust mites. They feed off the skin cells we shed.”
“Wait - that yellow stuff is pollen I got from the school garden?” Anna said.
“You were at the school garden?” Jessie asked Anna.
“Of course I was!” Anna answered. “I always go to the school garden to smell the flowers before school starts. You should know that by now!”
“Oh, right. But where did the dust mites come from?”
“My mom told me to fluff the covers on my bed to get the dust out of them. I guess the dust mites came from my covers.”
Everyone on the SCAS heard Anna talk about how the pollen and the dust mite got trapped in her nasal hairs. They all went, 'Ooooooh.' They took out their phones and took pictures of what Anna has trapped in her nasal hairs.
While they did that, Anna gave out a sharp inhale through her nose, causing us and the nasal hair prisoners to...
