Chapter #3

Joey

by: Thomas Johnson Author IconMail Icon
"Oh Joey, don't leave me. You're the only one that can get the job done" the young woman cried out to Joey as he hopped on his motorcycle. "Sorry babe, but I've got to save the world," he said as he slipped his sunglasses on. "But Joey, we're here!" the young woman hollered. Joey did a double-take. For a second there, she almost kinda sounded like his dad. "Dad?" he called out when suddenly, he was met with darkness.

Joey groggily opened his eyes.

Once again, his father had interrupted one of his dreams, a good one at that.

His waking up was then accelerated by his dad shutting the driver's door loudly, prompting Joey to get irritated. He moved his cap out of his eyes and said, "Sheesh, who pissed in his coffee?" He sat up and looked out his window at their new house. He was reluctant to move at first, but after hearing that he'd get his own room again, there was no way he could turn it down. It didn't hurt that there was ample opportunity for linemen like himself in the area too, so it was a win-win.

"Somebody peed in daddy's coffee?" Alexis spoke up from the third row, poking her head over the seat.

He looked over at his younger sister and smiled. She usually repeated the stupid shit he'd say, and it sounded a lot funnier in her high-pitched voice.

"Nobody did Alexis, it's a figure of speech" he hear his older sister Sarah say, which somewhat annoyed him. They got along fine when they were growing up, but ever since she returned from college, she just got under his skin for some reason. He attributed it to being constantly in each other's spaces, as they had to share the same room. Then, Anthony spoke up from behind him, "I need to pee, I've been holding it since we left!".

Anthony always found a way to make Joey laugh. He was a boy of simple needs and just liked to sit in his room. Joey wished that he'd be more active and want to play more physical games with him, but he figured that he'd find interest in time.

His mom was about to start lecturing him about his poor choice of words around his younger siblings, so to tune her out, he pulled out his phone and replied to his girlfriend, Lexi. She was initially sad about the move, even though it wasn't too far of a drive from their hometown, but after hearing Joey's parents say that she could spend the night whenever she came over, it was welcomed even more.

He would miss the frequent quality time he had with Lexi, taking it for granted. He'd miss sneaking out to go to her house, do the dirty, and sneak back before either of their parents knew what was afoot. Unless she made a surprise visit, they wouldn't be seeing each other in person for a little while, so photos of her in his phone would have to suffice. The photos in question, both regular and nude, would be more than enough to keep Joey entertained. If he could put up a poster of his girlfriend's naked body, he would, but he didn't think the rest of his family would approve of it.

His thoughts grew cruder the more he thought about Lexi, but they were interrupted by his dad barking at him and his siblings, "So up and at em! Go tell those gentlemen what to do with your stuff!". He and Sarah sighed out loud, while the twins cheered and crawled out the back of the car. Joey watched as his siblings interacted with the movers, and had them carry their stuff into the house.

He walked up to the van and lifted one of his boxes of belongings. "Sir, we can take that for you, it's no trouble at all" one of the workers said from the back of the van. "it's no biggie man, it'll just save some time if I grab it. Thank you though.", Joey said as he heaved his box toward the house.

His mother had called something out as he got closer to the front door, but he couldn't make out what she said, so he kept on moving.

When he stepped inside, he put the box down and looked around.

"Now, where do I wanna put this junk?"
