It was quite the sight, as Verona looked out the window of the transport ship. The vast openness of space wasn't something she saw often. After graduating she didn't even get to return to Earth, due to starting her job position almost immediately after graduating. It was the the first time in three years she was going off planet. And her trip now would likely be for an important reason. The space station, LunaAlpha, had send out request for medical help and announced they had gone into quarantine. As they had not send any detail on what was happening, the Council wasn't ready to send more than one person until more information would be provided. But just in case, if the situation truly was dire, they decided to sent one of their best medical experts. And currently that expert was nearly glued to the transport ships window, as she saw the massive space station come to view.
The LunaAlpha was one of the largest and most impressive station in the galaxy. It had the most advanced reactors installed, the latest highly advanced AI-computer systems and top of the notch security. But all that was partly the reason why Verona was feeling nervous. What could have caused one of the most advanced stations to go on lock-down. For all she knew, Verona was walking to certain death. She was hoping some of her friends' jokes were right. Maybe the station just had an flu out brake or a bad case of food poisoning and was just too embarrassed to tell what was going on. Then again the station should be capable to handle anything that wasn't truly serious.
The ship finally docked, and Verona took a deep breath before stepping into the airlock.
After putting on her containment-suit the door shut behind her and the ship's pilot appeared on a small screen on the wall next to her.
"So does miss doctor know how long she's supposed to be 'ere?"
"No. Quite honestly I have no idea what's going on behind that door."
"Really. Well me and the boys over back at shipping placed some bets. If the station's turned into a nest for alien, I'll win me self a 400 credits."
"Seriously. I have a feeling you wont be winning that bet. But still.. This could be very serious."
"Well. If I've paid attention, you're supposed to be one of the bestest doctors around, so I think you'll be fine. So good luck, miss doctor, and try not to die and stuff."
"You know that's not as comforting as you think is. Also it is Dr. Foxwell, not 'miss doctor'."
Verona wasn't sure if the pilot heard that last part, as the door to the station was already opening. She started pushing her cart of medical supplies and entered the ominous space station. She found herself in a small room with a door and a darkened window. Nearing the door she wasn't seeing any way to open. Then the window suddenly lightened up and a voice yelled out from a speaker.
"Well hello there! You must be the help we requested. Let me open that door for you."
Catching her breath after being spooked by the sudden voice, Verona saw trough the window who was speaking to her. There sat a portly woman wearing a slightly too small security uniform. She was in what looked like security office pressing some button.
Soon the door swung open and Verona was able to continue on into a corridor. After a moment a side door open and the woman she had just seen came trough. Now up close, it was clear that this security guard was overweight. Her a large gut hung low and supported two massive breasts. The woman's whole body jiggled as she walked toward Verona. Verona, being a medical professional, knew that being that out of shape would be against the Council set requirements for such position as a security officer. But right now she didn't want to focus on the diet plan of this woman. She wanted to know what was going on the ship as soon as possible.
"Hi! I'm Dr. Foxwell. I supposed to be your medical assistance."
"Officer Riffin. Nice to meet ya. Even with you in that suit, I don't think I'll be shaking your hand. Least till we know if this thing spreads on contact."
"So, what exactly is this 'thing'?"
"Wait, you don't know. Of course. Should've guessed the captain would tell what the Council what's going on. She's a stubborn one."
"Could you tell me what's happening, then?"
"Oh. I think it's much better if you hear it from the people who are much more in the know. The captain and some of the medical experts will likely explain things once you're in your quarters."
"Quarters?"
"Yep, you've got yourself a cozy little room. Well, not little, it's one of the high end rooms, actually. Oh right, I'm supposed to be taking you there right now. Just follow me. Don't worry it's completely sterile, just in case."
With that Verona began following the larger then usual officer down a few corridors into a few elevators. Walking behind the woman she could see as the woman's body jiggled and bounced on every step. Those pants looked, like they were barely holding together. Eventually they arrived at top quarters of the ship. On the doors Verona spotted the names of some high ranking officers, scientists and other crew members. At the end of the hall apparently was her new room.
"So this it", officer Riffin said as she pressed in a code to open the room.
"And I can take my containment suit off in here?"
"Sure, at least that's what they told me."
"Well, I guess I'll be waiting here then. Thank you officer."
"No problem. I should be thanking you for coming here. Don't know how long we can handle all this." Riffin said as she padded her large gut, before turning around and leaving.
Verona entered her room and was immediately stunned. It looked like a fancy penthouse. Even her own apartment looked measly next to this place, and with the money she got from her career she had bought one of the fanciest apartment on that side of Mars. But this place. This place looked like it was made for a king. It had a large spacious lounge area, which was then connected to separate kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and a study. The lounge had a massive hologram-television in front of a, currently closed, window to space. The kitchen was also roomy and had all the new appliances. The bedroom housed a massive bed with a secondary television opposing it. The bathroom looked more like a personal spa, with it's large bathtub, which possibly doubled as hot-tub. And the study had shelves filled with hundreds of smart-drives of books on many different subjects. Verona felt like she had entered heaven.
She then noticed a short message on the holographic screen in the lounge;
Dr. Verona Foxwell. The LunaAlpha will be housing you in this room until you have finished your duties and your help is no longer necessary. And we do hope that will be the case. We will try to provide you with all our resources so you can aid us in this unusual situation. Once you are settled in we will be informing you with as much information as we can.
From, Captain Commander Bakins, of the LunaAlpha
After reading the message Verona stripped form the bulky containment suit and placed it next to the cart of supplies. Carefully avoiding touching the outside of it just in case whatever was happening here was contagious. The route officer Riffin had brought her through was likely an maintenance area, as it was quite barren and didn't have anyone there at the moment. Verona did manage to catch a few glimpses of some of the crew near the quarters and at least for now she felt that there was no immediate danger, with the unknown medical emergency.
Verona wondered for a moment how would the captain, or someone else, would know when she has settled in. That's something she would find out once its time, as right now she wanted to explore her new accommodations. She figured she likely wouldn't get to spend much time here, once she gets to work on whatever she was dealing with.
Entering the bathroom she couldn't help but be in awe. The spacious white room was nothing but impressive. She quickly found herself looking in the massive wall mirror. She quickly noticed how hair had been slightly messed by wearing the containment suit. Verona quickly fixed her, almost 50's bob-styled, blond hair. She pushed her classes on her pretty green eyes and made sure the minimal amount of make up she had on wasn't messy.
Being in such a glamorous room, in front of a such magnificent mirror, Verona couldn't help but think she looked somehow more alluring as she viewed herself in the mirror. Being a slim woman with curves in the just right places, Verona was well aware of her attractiveness, but with her being such a busy worker and studious person it sometimes felt like her looks were wasted on her. But now, even in her doctor scrubs, she could take a moment appreciate her appearance. Well, her scrubs weren't necessarily ugly, as they were very form fitting, but they just were plain.
But Verona's moment of self admiration came to halt when the situation she was currently in resurfaced, as...
