Summer break - Redux

[Continuity Note: This a "Time rewind" style chapter, ignoring the events of the previous one and instead being a direct continuation to "It's your first day of summer vacation!Open in new Window. taking yet another path, for lack of a better place to put this route in]

You managed to remember that the school year was finally over. You still had one more year of highschool left though, as yours offered a 13th grade to be taken before going to college. That also meant that it would be your last year to make your move and ask Jen out. And while you were mostly determined to go ahead with this, you still had feelings for Lillian that you weren't sure if you could explain. Probably because she's been your best friend for so long, though something tells you that it goes further than that.

The realization that the next year would put an end to the continuous ride that has been going to school together with her struck you particularly hard, waking you up fully like a cold shower. It made you feel as if there was this sudden empty void right in the middle of your heart, the feeling of loss, even though it hadn't happened yet. Once highschool was over, all of you would most likely go on your separate paths... Would they cross again? You knew there were quite a few colleges in the city or nearby, but it was just as likely for you of your friends to choose one that's not necessarily the closest to home.

Then again, culture was another influential factor, you were sure that you were most likely going to stay at home rather than moving out, your parents were against it unless there was a good reason for it and by the look of things, you agreed. Lillian and her family, being Brazilian were probably similar enough on this regard, though then again Sheila was much wealthier than she normally let on.

With Jen, it was almost 50/50, her parents and herself being of Norwegian origin, yet she spent the first 11 years of her life growing up in Mexico, you weren't sure how much of the culture they assimilated or if they remained closer to her parents' place of origin. And while you had no romantic interest on the rest of your friends, knowing you might not be together anymore after that year felt like an added heavy weight to that gaping empty void in your heart.

Before you got too depressed by the thought, you shook your head and slapped yourself. There was no use to being sad for future events. You were just starting Summer Break, the time of year you'd been looking forwards the most! You were sure to spend a lot of time with your friends and make memories that hopefully you'd hold onto for later in your life. You felt more determined than ever to make every day count.

You didn't remember any concrete plans, so you simply went to your bathroom and took a cold shower to help relax yourself and maintain your focus, the cold water seemingly making you feel more alive. Once that was done, you dried yourself off and got dressed in your usual fashion, with some dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt with Superman's insignia on the chest, a complementary birthday gift from your mom, besides getting you the fighting game you'd been wanting all year.

You loved that your mom was cool enough that she still liked stuff like comics and superheroes, laughing a bit every time she nonchalantly admitted to being a huge tomboy in her youth, then again, you could see it. Definitely could see it, as your nose often suffered from that.

After picking up your phone and your wallet, putting them away in your jeans' side pockets, you walked out of your room, ready to get started with the day. Though the first order of business was to go get breakfast. So, you headed for the kitchen, if there was nothing you felt like having for breakfast, you could very well cook yourself one. That was one of the reasons you wanted to learn how to cook after all, starting from age 8 more or less.

Once you get out of your room, what happens though?
