Partial Possession

    by: Clide Author IconMail Icon
“Guess I can take shop in your body,” Eve said to Stinky.

“Wait… really?” Stinky said with a hint of excitement.

“Yeah, really.”

“Why her?” Sam asked.

Eve responded, “Because she’s a girl. I don’t wanna be in a boy’s body.”

Sam just crossed his arms. Stinky couldn’t help but laugh.

“Pff, c’mon Sam, don’t be a butt about it.”

“I’m not being a butt about it.”

“You’re both being butts about it,” Eve interjected. “So, you ready to do this?”

Stinky gave a hearty nod and a big grin. “Oh hell yeah I am! I’m gonna see what being possessed by a ghost is like!”

“Don’t sound so excited about it,” Sam said with a raised eyebrow.”

“Yeah, it’s only a partial possession, remember?” Eve added.

“No, that’s not what I—“

“Let’s do it!” Stinky interrupted. “I’m ready to go!”

Eve then rubbed her hands together as she assumed a ready position, like she was about to pounce. After a few seconds, she launched towards Stinky’s face. Eve then started to wedge herself through Stinky’s ear canal.

“WhoawhoawhoaWHOA!” Sam yelped. “Holy crap!”

As Eve continued to tunnel her way into Stinky’s ear, Stinky’s face went cross-eyed. Once Eve had for the rest of herself into Stinky’s head, Stinky stood still, eyes still crossed, and not saying a word.

“…Stinky?” Sam said quietly. “You OK—?”

Stinky then rapidly shook her head, as if she snapped herself out of a daze. “Whugh… that was… weird…” she then put her hand to her ear, and noticed something. Covering her ear was a slimy, gooey substance she didn’t recognize. Once she realized what it was, she started wiping it off as quickly as she could. “Eugh, the hell is this stuff!?”

Then immediately after her own question, Stinky’s mouth moved again, but her voice didn’t come out this time. “Ectoplasm. It’s just ghost gunk.”

Stinky then instinctively covered her own mouth in surprise. Same went wide-eyed in kind.

“…Eve?” He asked. “Was that you?”

Stinky moved her hands out of the way of her mouth as Eve’s voice came out of her once again. “Yeah, it’s me. Sorry about that.”

Once Eve stopped talking, Stinky spoke up again. “…Whoa. Eve, what… how are you doing that?”

“You say that like you’ve never seen a ghost movie before,” she answered. “When a person is possessed by a ghost, that ghost can then speak through that person. It’s just one way of manipulating the body.”

“I-I thought you said this was only gonna be a partial possession!” Sam exclaimed.

“It is,” Eve assured. “I’m only gonna be using Stinky’s mouth to talk. The rest of her body is hers to control like always. This way you guys can at least hear me.”

“But we still can’t see you,” Stinky chimed in. “Is this really that different from being invisible?”

“…I guess not,” Eve admitted. “I hate to admit it, but I can only be invisible for so long. Plus, even if I was invisible for longer, I’d probably still be seen anyway.”

“How?”

“Phones,” Eve answered. “Those things have the ability to see what should be invisible. No different from a regular camera. It’s… just a safer bet to stick around inside a body, alright?”

Sam and Stinky looked at each other in a mix of mild confusion and unease. They didn’t say it, but both had a sense that there was more to what Eve was saying than she was willing to admit. Stinky couldn’t read Sam’s mind of course, so she just went with what her gut told her: Eve was just super-duper shy.

“Well, alright, but can ya at least tell me why you felt like shoving yourself through my ear?” Stinky asked.

“Ectoplasm,” Eve said plainly. “Whenever a ghost phases through anything, they leave behind a trace of their presence by dumping ectoplasm around it. Ectoplasm usually disappears shortly after it appears though.”

“But why my ear?”

“You kidding? I wasn’t about to go up your nose or through your mouth!” Eve said. “Then you’d have ghost gunk up there, and I don’t wanna make you smell or taste that stuff!”

Stinky winced. “Ugh… yeah, that, that makes sense. Thanks for that…”

“Don’t mention it. So, you two wanna get this your started?”

Stinky looked at Sam, who seemed unsure, but gave a shrug and started making his way back towards the library entrance and back out through where they came in. Stinky just grinned and followed suit.

Once the two (now three) made their way back out through the school doors, Sam spoke up. “I guess now we should consider our first sto—“

BRRRRRRRrrrrrpppp…!

Stinky’s jacket fluttered slightly along the waft of her flatulence. Stinky’s eyes went wide in surprise.

“Stinky, seriously?” Sam sighed.

“Wh—hey, that wasn’t me!”

“She’s right, that was my bad,” Eve added.

“Hey, you told me that you wouldn’t control any other part of my body!” Stinky replied. “I didn’t give you permission to control my butt!

“I’m not controlling your butt!” Eve returned. “Don’t you remember, I can hardly control my own butt. This is just… a side effect of the possession.”

Bbbbbbrrrrpphhht…

Stinky rolled her eyes. “Oh, great…”

Stinky didn’t mind passing gas whatsoever. Obviously. That much was made pretty clear. What she did take issue with was having a lack of control over her own farts. Stinkers all had control of their flatulence to varying to degrees, and Stinky had always appreciated being able to fart on command. With Eve - a gassy ghost - possessing her body, however, it seemed that control was going to be lacking.

“Oh, give me a break,” Eve said. “Like you have any problems farting anyway. Besides, I’ve never possessed a Stinker before, so cut me some slack.”

Stinky just crossed her arms in defiance. “Fine… I guess I’ll get used to it. It’s just for a little while anyway.”

Sam just stared at Stinky awkwardly, waiting for his turn to speak up. “…Does that mean I’ll be leading the tour? I’d rather not be behind you two.”

Stinky couldn’t help but chuckle a little. “Heh, yeah, go ahead dude. Where to first?”

Sam stepped in front of Stinky, his hand in his chin. After a couple seconds of pondering, he snapped his fingers and turned around to announce, “Maybe the library!”

Eve’s voice spoke out from Stinky’s mouth. “Library? …You have more than one?

“Of course we do!” Sam confirmed. “The school library is a lot smaller than the town library.”

Stinky’s voice returned. “Really, Sam? We’re gonna show her a bunch of books?”

“Well, she was reading when we saw her. Wouldn’t hurt. Besides, where else did you have in mind?”

Stinky didn’t have an answer. “…Give me some time to think.”

“Library it is, in the meantime!” Sam declared. He then spun around and headed in the direction of the town library.

Eve spoke. “Huh…I wonder what sort of books they have there.”

Stinky replied, “Well, they do have one thing the school library doesn’t: comic books.”

“Comic books? Really?”

“Yup. I’ll show you a couple I really like.”

Stinky then followed after Sam as he led the way to the library.

Time: 9:19 AM

As Stinky followed behind Sam on the way to the downtown library, the occasional uncontrollable fart squeaked out of her.

Brrrrraaappp!
Brraaaphhhhttt!

As she walked along the path led by Sam, she began to think about her current state. Man, she thought, being possessed by a ghost is… weirder than I thought it would be.

You’re not the first one to think so.

Stinky blinked and looked around for the source of the voice.

It’s Eve. I’m just talking to you through your brain.

Uhhhh… how? Stinky thought.

Really? You haven’t figured it out by now? I’m possessing your body. That includes your head. I DID enter through your ear.

Oooooo, so it’s like a psychic connection!

Yeah, actually, Eve replied. If I ever have to say anything, just be sure to keep an open mind and listen.

Noted.

Once the trio arrived at the library, Sam outstretched his arm as if he were a presenter. “And here we are!” He announced. “The downtown library!”

I think you’ll like this place. It’s run by an old guy named Dom, Stinky thought.

Not like I ever get to talk to the guy, Eve thought back.

I mean, you met me and Sam, didn’t ya?

Eve didn’t reply.

Sam returned to his stride, and right as they were about to step through the entrance, they saw—
