The coin showed heads, meaning that Sam would make the first choice that was presented to them in the book. As Sam grabbed the coin off the back of his hand, Stinky said, "Alright, you go first," as she opened the book to the first page.
"Who should read this?" Sam asked. Stinky paused for a second before she replied, "Well, how about we take turns doing that too? You're gonna make the first choice, so you should read for now, then I'll start reading when it's my turn." Sam nodded and said back, "Works for me." Stinky held the book with both her hands, but positioned it between the both of them, so that Sam could see and read clearly.
Sam cleared his throat and started reading. "In the kingdom of Epula, a young man named Cyrus Merrifall works as a mercenary alongside his partners at the Mercenary Guild. They'll take any job, so long as the pay is good, and their latest job was most certainly very, very good. The Guild was hired by the Royal Family themselves to work as added protection for a period of one month's time, and was going to be paid accordingly for their time. The Guild accepted without question, and partied all the previous night when they had received the job." Stinky interjected, "Well, they don't know what they're in for just yet." Sam stopped reading to look at Stinky and said, "Wait, you know what's gonna happen?" Stinky look back at Sam and replied, "Well sort of - I only read the back." Sam responded, "Ohhh, gotcha. So, I imagine that's where all the farting is gonna come in?" Stinky just laughed and said, "You'll see."
"Alright." Sam turn his gaze back at the book to continue reading. "The following morning, each member was assigned a specific position to best assist the Royal Family. Cyrus was surprised to learn that he would be given the opportunity to act as the personal bodyguard of the beautiful Princess Andaret herself. Princess Andaret was a young maiden with fair skin and bright blonde hair and bright blue eyes - Cyrus couldn't find the words to express how lucky he felt to be able to work alongside her."
Stinky then turned the page, where a picture of both Cyrus and Princess Andaret could be seen. The book had the occasional full-page picture to accompany important moments in the story, and this was the first. Stinky quickly scanned the picture. Something about it seemed oddly familiar to her, but she didn't know why. Sam continued reading.
"Just as Cyrus was about to think to himself that this was the luckiest day in his life, he heard what had to be the loudest fart he had ever heard. Oh, OK, I get it now - so, the Princess is the gassy one here." Stinky nodded and replied, "Yeah, she's got farts for days." Sam then continued reading. The book continued to elaborate on Cyrus' thought process about the whole situation, basically boiling down to him debating whether or not he wanted the position as personal bodyguard if it meant he had to deal with the Princess' flatulence. Just then, Sam was presented with his first choice - either tough it out and accept the position, or quit and look for another job. Each choice was given a number in parentheses to indicate the page number to turn to to continue the story. Sam's first choice was pretty straightforward - either have Cyrus accept the job regardless, or just up and quit. Sam scoffed under his breath and said, "Well, that's not much of a choice, is it?" Stinky replied, "Yeah, that kinda sucks - you want the next choice too?" Sam shook his head. "Nah nah, that wouldn't be fair. It's not like you knew this was the first choice or anything." Stinky added, "Yeah, true. Though, it is pretty funny that you can just choose not to do it - that's gotta be a new record for shortest fantasy story or something." Sam laughed and replied, "I bet. Well, I'm not gonna do that - I'll accept."
"Alrighty then." Stinky turned to the page number shown next to the choice, then started to narrate. "Cyrus decided it wouldn't be right to back out just because of Princess Andaret's flatulence. He was better than that, and told himself that he would simply overcome it." Sam then interjected, "How much you wanna bet she's a lot gassier than that later on?" Stinky giggled and said back, "Oh, I'll be disappointed if she isn't!" Sam laughed and added, "Sounds like this princess is just you." Stinky giggled some more, then she thought, Well, I dunno about that, Sam. I certainly don't see myself as a princess, that's for sure.
She continued reading the book aloud. The story continued as such; Cyrus had been at the castle for a day, and had not yet heard anymore of Princess Andaret's "outbursts," so he began to think it was a fluke. That is, until he accompanied her for dinner, where she showed how much she liked the meal by farting rather consistently. Cyrus decided it was best to just ask the princess herself why she was so flatulent. Stinky was then presented with a choice of what Princess Andaret's story would be: 1) Andaret is one-quarter Ogre, 2) She was cursed by a witch's spell, or 3) she did not actually know.
Sam said, "Huh, OK. So, what do you think?" Stinky replied, "Not sure - her being part Ogre sounds really cool! But like, the other two seem kinda cool too. Imagine Cyrus has to go on a journey to break the spell, or find out why she's so gassy." Stinky thought it over, before she decided on--
