Chimchar glances over at you and nods. Then she uses Ember one more time. Shinx is too tired to evade it, and raises one front leg to try and block it. The small fireball slams into it and knocks it over. Shinx lets out a sad cry as it falls over and faints.
Chimchar hops over to Shinx and prods it with her finger. The wild Pokemon doesn’t react. Chimchar then grins and hops up and down, clapping her hands and cheering. You clap and cheer too, running over to your giant starter. You and Chimchar have beaten multiple wild Pokemon before, but this is the first time you did it while you were tiny, so it’s pretty exciting.
“Great work!” you yell.
“Cha chi, chim chi!” your starter laughs.
She runs over to you and suddenly scoops you up in her hands. Holding you in her grip, she lifts you up and starts spinning around while holding you at arm’s length. It makes you pretty dizzy, but it’s also fun and cute. You laugh along with Chimchar. After spinning and jumping for a bit, Chimchar pulls you into a tight hug, holding you to her soft and warm chest with both hands. You relax and lean into her chest.
“Alright, that was a good fight,” you say. “Seeing two big Pokemon fight was cool. It reminded me of those Dynamax battles they have in some regions. But it was scary to have that Shinx find me while you were still in your ball. I thought it was going to eat me, or take me away and use me like a chew toy. So I think you should stay outside your ball from now on, just to keep me safe.”
Chimchar nodded, and you smiled up at her.
“Also, I guess we should decide what to do next. Should we stay here in the wilderness and keep battling Pokemon? We did come here to look for a new team member, and I do still want to catch a Pokemon. Either that, or we can go back to Sandgem—it’ll probably be safer for me there. Maybe we can talk to Professor Rowan, or a Nurse Joy, and they can help me figure out how to get back to normal size. Finding Mew is one way, of course, but that’ll be hard, so I want to know if there are other options.”
