Chapter #7

Michelle eventually comes to

    by: Gavalar Author IconMail Icon
Around 10 to 15 minutes after she collapsed to the floor in shock, Michelle finally starts to come around. The sight of Alice's severed head talking to her from the floor while her headless body lay limp on the sofa was just too much for her to process in that moment.

"Oh, thank god she's waking up. Michelle!? Can you hear me? Please don't freak out this time." She hears Alice's voice call to her from what sounds like right next to her.

Michelle's memory is still a bit hazy as she comes around & she doesn't remember how she ended up on the floor just yet.

"Uhhh. Alice? What's going on?" Michelle asks, rubbing her eyes as she begins to sit up. She looks around the room searching for where Alice's voice came from. As her eyes finally come into focus she is once again met with the sight of Alice's limp body with no head on her shoulders. A chill runs down Michelle's spine as an existential dread washes over her.

"No! NO! ALICE!!?" She shrieks at the sight of what she believes to be her friend's corpse.

"It's okay! It's okay! Michelle! I know this is scary, but you need to calm down, please!" Alice's head calls to her again from out of Michelle's eyeline.

"Alice!? This is freaking me out! Are you a ghost!?"

"I know how it looks, but I'm not dead. Look down." Alice tries to reassure Michelle, knowing that it will be nearly impossible to stop her from freaking out further. Michelle hesitantly looks down, following where she believes Alice's voice came from until she spots her head on the floor again with a look of worried anticipation across her face.

"Hi." Is all Alice could bring herself to say as she looks eyes with Michelle, who has transitioned from a screaming freakout to a silent internal meltdown.

"Hi." Michelle replies, her face flushing white as she looks like she is about to pass out again.

"I-I must be going mad. Y-you're dead. I saw you." Michelle rambles in an accusing manner as she points a trembling finger at Alice's head.

"You're not crazy, Michelle. I know it's a lot to process, but I'm not dead. I don't know how I ended up like this, but what you see is very much real & I really need your help." Alice pleads for Michelle to accept the truth, as hard as it may be to swallow.

"H-how is this possible? Your head...You shouldn't be alive right now." Michelle begins to accept what her eyes have been witnessing this whole time.

"Believe me, I don't understand it either. My head just fell off of my body somehow & I can't control or feel it anymore. You're the first person to find me like this." Alice explains.

"Now that you mention it, I don't see any blood anywhere. I must have imagined things being gory..." Michelle points out, seemingly coming to her senses on her own by talking herself through her surroundings. "Wait, so your head just...Fell off?"

"Pretty much. I had this pain in my neck, so I tried doing some stretches. Next thing I knew I was rolling across the floor & everything felt numb below my neck."

"That must have been so scary. I probably would've screamed the house down." Michelle makes an effort to lighten the mood after her previous two meltdowns.

"Oh believe me, I did." Alice Jokes, making the most of the calm energy while it lasts. "Honestly, I was so relieved when I heard you coming. I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't found me."

"I know. I'm here now, Alice. I want to help you." Michelle extends her arms, sweeping some hair out of Alice's face that is clearly bothering her, but didn't want to make a fuss over. "Is it alright if I pick you up?"

"Yes, of course. Anything to get me off of this floor." Alice accepts. Relieved that she doesn't have to go through this freaky experience on her own any longer. Michelle scoops her hands under Alice's jawline, wrapping her fingers around the sides of her head as she lifts her up for the first time.

"Whoa! This feels weird. I feel so small."

"Yet you're surprisingly heavy!" Michelle teasingly points out.

"Hey! It's not my fault I have a big brain!" Alice fires back.

As Alice's head is spun around to face the same direction as Michelle, the two of them stare at Alice's body which hadn't moved an inch the whole time that they were talking.

"Do you think your head will go back on?" Michelle asks.

"I guess there's only one way to find out."
