Chapter #3

First impressions

On a spring day where the warmth hadn't been too unbearable, Matt had decided to take in the sights of the town of Riverdale. He hadn't seen quite anything like it as growing up in the big city had made him used to the hustle and bustle of a crowded sidewalk or jammed packed street ways. Now all Matt could hear was the sound of wildlife with the occasional car drowning it all out as the vehicle passed him by. He didn't quite hate it, but there was something left to be desired about Riverdale. Before he could dwell on it any further the pang of hunger took all of his focus away and made Matt hopeful that perhaps a restaurant would've allowed him a chance to appreciate the small town life.

Another issue with small towns made itself apparent, the limited business that provided services. Finding a place to eat sounded simple but a town like Riverdale didn't like to give up it's secrets so easily. In theory, Matt could've given up and walked back home and helped unpack with the rest of his family but if there was one thing about him, it was that he was stubborn as all can be. That determination was destined to ebb when he finally found himself in a residential area, and subsequently cursed his sense of direction.

Pondering what to do next, he heard the sound of a door opening from the house he was standing right in front of. "Alright Arch, see ya." said a boy wearing a peculiar beanie as he walked out. The near permanent scowl the boy had was intimidating but as the other took notice of Matt his features softened slightly and yet the two remained standing in silence.

"Do you need something?" The boy said, breaking the ice between them and startling Matt in the process. "I was just, looking for a place to eat." Matt finally blurted out with embarrassment written all over his face. "Well hate to break it to you but, you're pretty far away from the nearest diner." The boy took Matt's awkwardness in stride as he pointed in the direction that Matt was walking away from. "It's that way." The boy directed before he approached Matt. As the boy drew near Matt couldn't help but take note of just how much taller and bigger he seemed. It wasn't hard for Matt to find boys naturally larger than him but something about this particular guy made the teen lightheaded as he looked up. "I'm actually going that way. I can show you the place if you want." the offer, along with the boy's immense height and size made Matt unable to say no as he gave a weak clear of his throat. "Sure, I'd love to." Matt said only to watch as the boy began to walk, leaving Matt to follow with nothing to gaze at other than the broad back of the other. "Name's Jughead by the way." the boy said, and momentarily broke the shyness that Matt had as the blond stared up quizzically. He wasn't sure if he could inquire any further and decided to leave things be for now and focus on just trying to be nice to who might potentially be the first friend he has in this place. "I'm Matt." he said while trying to match Jughead's strides.
