Matt knew he found himself in the bad part of town when the buildings started to look rundown and the roads had one too many potholes. The southside was a different stroke compared to the pleasant northside of Riverdale and it had all the scars to show Matt how. Common sense told Matt to turn around, head back the other direction but something stuck out as too interesting to turn away, namely the particular bar he had just came across. Being young, he knew he had no way of actually entering the premises without an ID, and yet he wondered if rules applied even to this rundown joint.
Noticing there was no bouncer on sight Matt kept his head low as he stepped through, instantly welcomed to the sound of rock music roaring into his ears. He didn't know where to look within the dimly lit interior, there were tons of guys around but none of them seemed to be interested in paying him any mind. Slowly Matt motioned through the crowd, hearing the heavy thrums of men talking over one another or the sharp sound of a pool cue striking a ball. When he could finally see an empty chair he embraced it without a second thought.
Bringing himself up to the bar table, he instantly locked eyed with the burly bartender staring at him, the sight of which made the boy flinch. "U-uh hi?" Matt said to the concerning scowl that the man had. "All out of juice boxes kid, might wanna run back home to your parents while you're at it." the guy smirked as Matt slowly sank in his chair. This conversation had already caught the attention of a few men who turned to look over at the blond boy and Matt could hear them snickering. In just a few short minutes, Matt had became the laughing stock of the Whyte Wyrm. "A-actually!" Matt finally spoke up and roused the bartender to raise a brow. "I'll have the strongest drink you can manage!"
The words left Matt's lips with a false bravado that the boy regretted soon after. Relief however came when the bartender simply let out a small laugh and held a smile where a scowl previously resided. "Feeling brave huh? You know what kid I got something for you." the bartender said as he began to dig under the counter to fetch a few tonics and cocktails. Immediately the idea of price came to Matt's mind but it was as if the big man behind the counter knew exactly what the other was thinking. "On the house." the guy rumbled as he fixed the drink. Various pouring of bottles later and Matt was presented a shot of liquor that held an strange green hue to it. "We call that the serpent king's treat." the guy said as Matt's fingers grazed over the shot glass. Once again the boy was keenly aware of the presence of eyes stared over him before he realized the expectation that was mounting upon him from these men. Without a second though Matt knocked the shot glass back, and felt the alcohol burn the back of his throat down to his stomach. He didn't have time to mind that though as he heard a few cheers from the men around him.
