Chapter #4Enter the house. by: Zone The house was completely empty and dark. Thick dust covered the furniture. No one had lived here for a long time it looked like. You called out for your uncle, but no one answered, The upstairs was just as bad. It was also very minimally decorated. Bed, a few pieces of furniture, basic appliances, but no real pictures or other stuff showing the house had inhabitants. It was like it was only designed to look like someone lived here. There was no signs of a dead body, so maybe your uncle just left a while ago and forgot to tell everyone.
“It’s just like him.” You sighed to yourself before coughing in the dust. “ALways going on about science. Saying anything I could think of with magic, he could replicate with science.” You may enjoy sports, but you also had fun with D&D with friends, anime, and other stuff. People didn’t have to fit in a specific category. “Guess all that's left is the basement…” The door was locked and you realized it had a weird hand scanner. “What the…? What kind of sci-fi is this? Where’s the key code?”
You put your hand on the scanner and a light ran under it
“Access granted.” A cool mechanical female voice said. “Welcome, Tim.”
The door slid open and it wasn’t a wood door. Just made to look like it. It was actually a metal door disguised as one. You blinked and peaked into the dark basement. Suddenly, lights came on and you saw the stairs were also metal, and shiny, like they have been cleaned periodically. Slowly, you descended far below the house and your mouth fell open.
It was a scientific lab you only see in movies and read in novels. Equipment covering the walls, cylinders filled with weird devices that looked like ray guns, helmets, remotes, and other things. This was crazy and you were just gaping at everything as your brain tried to process things. Then out of nowhere, a blue hologram of your uncle appeared.
“Hello, Tim.” The hologram said. “If you’re seeing this, I am either dead or one of my experiments sent me away. Word of advice, teleportation is difficult. Now you may wonder what all this is…”
“Damn right.” I muttered.
“...so I’ll summarize it. Most people don’t understand my genius and write me off as crazy. You did not do that. Sure you didn’t understand being of normal intelligence, but you never tried to put me down. So I figured you would be the one best suited to inherit my inventions. I made a lot of devices you might enjoy. Unless you’re too old. If you find this recorded message when you’re 40, you might not have as much fun.”
“Okay…?” You crossed your arms.
“Anyways, I digress. This is all yours now as I am gone. Feel free to look around. The lab is mostly automated, and all the finished devices are labeled and you can read the explanation screens. Now for security reasons, you can only have one device out at a time. Should you want to try something else, you have to put the first one back into it’s cylinder. This is to ensure they do not fall in the wrong hands.”
“I had so many questions!” You yelled.
“A reminder, this is a recording, so I can’t answer any questions. Good bye, Tim. I hope you can get something out of my legacy.”
The hologram vanished, leaving you standing there stunned.
