Chapter #7

The devil you know

    by: Alie Author IconMail Icon
Maybe it was fate, or he was looking for the old me, but Tom walked up to the bar to get a beer and sat right next to me. I looked over and saw him, he was taller than me now. I blushed a little and looked away. He tapped me on the shoulder, "can I buy you a drink?" I thought about it before a second before nodding my head. I ordered the same IPA I was about to order before everything changed.

We began to talk, my name now was Alice now, and the two of use began to talk. I learned some new things about Tom, and I had a whole new backstory. But we flirted, and talked for close to an hour. The pool table was barely and afterthought as we talked.

Maybe it was my new body, maybe it was learning new things about my best friend, maybe the beer was hitting me more than usual, but I was truly engaged in our conversation as we talked. As it neared closing time, I began to realize what I was wanting to do next. I leaned into him, put my hand on his thigh and whispered into his ear. "I'd like to keep talking, somewhere private." I pulled myself back a little and looked into his eyes, we locked eyes, and leaned in to kiss. It was different, almost like a first kiss.

"I need to pee first, but then we can go," he said. I nodded my approval. He walked off with a bit of pep in his step, I watched after him like I used to do to hot women all the time, he did have a nice ass.

Jake the bartender walked over to me. "Remember what I said."

"How do I choose to turn back or stay?"

"Just make your choice," he said. "It'll happen. One thing, if you choose to remain, your life will catch up to you choice. Your memories, place, everything, will adjust to match. Enjoy the rest of your night." Tom returned, signed the bill, and we left. Soon we were in an Uber, headed back to his place. In the back seat, we made out, he was getting a little more aggressive, but it was nice.
