The forest was burning, thousands of engines has been scrambled from the whole state and the 3 states that border it. Even with all of that they were only slowing down its spread, and barely that. Dozen of crews had gathered here to give the nearby town enough time to evacuate.
High press hoses, foam, canisters fill with heavy gas to push the oxygen out of the way. There were using every tool they had. Isn't wasn't enough.

The firefighter saw the fire stopped spreading for at bit. They new that this wouldn't keep without them helping it so they rushed forward to clear the brush and spray the ground with fire suppressing chemicals.

The fires on the fires flanks still advanced but the humans had done something so where one very slowly closing the gap in the wall of fire it made by stopping.

It then gathered all of square miles of self into one piles forming a blob of fire 400ft high.
It called out to the other fires to stop spreading.
They didn't listen, maybe they couldn't because they were just chemical reactions that were alive only in that they consumed.
The got mad and grew a tentacle and swatted the less high but still deadly fire on in front of it to the right.
It absorbed the fire the grew bigger, reaching 450ft.

The then grew more tentacles turning into a 400 ft octopus of fire (some of height went into the tentacles). It swatted out all the fires to the left and right of the wedge of safety. Not even a single ember remained, the smoke cleared and ground was cool enough to walk on. It use it tentacles to stop them from feeling to the left flank made of the animals went to the right, they would be safe there, there wasn't enough to burnt to start another fire. It had grown to 900ft tall.
The firetopus when up the left flank towards the wall of fire which sent a tendril several feet into the wedge. It wouldn't be having that. As it went towards the wall it was careful not to burn anything else, and so it didn't.
It then reached the wall of fire, it was 20 miles long. It absorbed a 3000ft segment of the wall of fire growing to 1500ft all. It then sent tentacles stretched down the left and right sides of its absorbing them completely. It grew the fire to a whole mile tall. The smoke then cleared and it could be seen by the human firefighters.

There sprayed all the fire suppressing chemicals they had presoaked all the wood. Using the huge diggers that had also been mustered they started to expand the fire breaking trenches there had already started.
