"Jeez, looks like I'm still a failure," Johnny said. He quickly realized something was very wrong. That wasn't the sound of his voice. He tried cleared his throat several times, but each successful clear further drove home the feeling that something was way off.
"Mom, are you okay?" He tried saying again.
"Johnny, is that you," she replied.
Johnny's eyes went wide. Recognized that voice. Of course he recognized that voice. For the last 17 years, that's been his voice. Getting up and stumbling over to the fuse box, Johnny had a sinking feeling about what had happened. Although he couldn't see it yet, he could feel his body moving in places that it shouldn't be moving, and clothes fitting in ways they shouldn't be fitting. Finally making it to the fuse box, Johnny flipped the blown fuse.
"AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!" Carla and Johnny screamed.
"What the hell!" Johnny's mom yelled. She began looking herself over, taking in all the new feelings from her current body.
"I don't know mom, there must have been an overload in the relay switch during the extraction process," Johnny tried explaining. "The emergency shutdown unit must have purged all information it had gathered... but it purged it into the wrong bodies."
"Does that mean..." Mom said.
"...we've switched bodies," Johnny finished for her.
The swapped mother-son combo stared at each other in awe. Johnny couldn't believe the event that had just transpired. A moment ago, he was a budding scientist. Now, he was a 44-year old deep-chested woman. He took a few steps towards his old body, each movement further verifying that he was, in fact, in someone else's body. Each quiver, bounce, and jiggle of his mom's curves sent messages to his brain that he had never felt before. The tightness of the clothing, coupled with the added flesh and fat was sending his brain into overdrive. Just a few minutes ago, he was an in shape teen, but now his body has been replaced with that of a middle-aged, curvy mother of three:
"Well... I guess this is one way to experience someone else's life," Johnny tried to joke.
"Johnny! Be serious! I can't be my own son. What will Richard think?"
"No, we can't tell anybody. If this gets out, I'll be ostracized from the scientific community for life!" Johnny pleaded.
"Well, what are we going to do, then?" Mom asked, still clearly getting adjusted to her new voice.
"Just, give me a second. Maybe we can use the same process to change back?" He suggested, clearly not sure of himself... herself... whatever.
Walking over to the computer terminal, Johnny noticed that everything looked fine. Other than the glaring mishap, it looks like the machine was otherwise unscathed. Maybe that means his programming actually worked exactly like it was supposed to, it was Johnny that had made the mistake when developing the software. This means that he didn't make a machine that helps aid in empathetic feelings, he made a machine that literally allows someone to walk a mile in another person's shoes!
"Mom, I think we'll be able to change back without any problems," he said confidently.
"Are you saying you accidentally invented a body switching machine?!" she asked.
"It really looks that way," he replied.
At this point, Johnny began looking himself over. As a 17-year old, he knew he still had a lot to experience in life, but this was taking it to a whole 'nother level. He looked down, seeing that he was now wearing a green shirt, denim jacket, and blue jeans. Pretty casual wear. His mother's large bust was testing the fibers of the shirt. Wow, think of the possibilities now.
"So... what do we do now?" mom said, breaking the silence.
