“Whoa... what th--?!?” exclaimed Steve in the high-pitched, girlish voice of Amber. “What happened?”
The family looked around and discovered they were no longer in the dilapidated old haunted house. Instead, they were in a brightly lit, modern school corridor... and were surrounded by dozens of middle school kids chatting, giggling, or busying themselves with their lockers.
“We're at school,” whispered Megan with amazement. “But... you guys are all still Jared, Molly, and Amber.”
“Honey, I'm not spending the day as a twelve-year boy,” said Janet firmly.
“Mo-... er... Jared, I don't think you have much choice,” whispered Megan. She looked around curiously at the other kids and their surroundings for a moment. “I think we've traveled back in time, too. This looks like the first day of school.”
Just then the sharp drill of a warning bell assailed their ears.
“We're middle school kids on the first day of class?” asked a panicking Alan. He looked down at his tiny, female body uncomfortably and began to fidget with his long, red hair.
“And judging by that bell, we probably have to get to our first period classes soon,” sighed Steve. He was also fidgeting uncomfortably now, looking intensely embarrassed to be out in public wearing a tiny skirt.
“C'mon,” said Megan. “I'll show you guys where your lockers are. You should have class schedules that you can follow, to help you figure out where you need to go. We can all meet up at the end of the day and figure out... I dunno... where to go from here.”
