Chapter #5

Ghost Host

    by: Hoppy Author IconMail Icon
As you finished your nightly routine, you found yourself rather fatigued. Perhaps the strangeness of the day coupled with all that walking was finally getting to you. On a normal day, you might be up for an hour on your phone, but as soon as your head hit your pillow, you were out like a light.

You were in a mansion. One of those old Victorian looking places with the wood paneling and gold candelabras lighting everything. Only it didn't actually look all that old. Everything around you was expensive looking though. From the decorations, to the food wafting in from the dining area, to the guests who surrounded you. They were all dressed in period wear - rich silks, corsets, and flowing fabrics as far as the eye could see.

As you began to wander the halls, you could feel a strange flowiness to your clothing, suggesting you shared in the strange dress. Music surrounded you, played from a far off set of string instruments and giving the entire atmosphere a jovial feel. People mingled and laughed, but you walked past them all, as if heading to a determined location.

As you continued past some rather boisterous partygoers, you began to notice how alien your movements felt. It was as though your back was being forcibly straightened by your clothing, making it a bit harder to breathe but giving it support at the same time. Thankfully so too, because it felt as though there was a great weight added to your chest. You could still feel the locket around your neck however, and that was somehow very grounding.

Rounding the corner, you turned into your presumed destination. A lavish bathroom, with faucets of gold and a polished silver mirror. You placed your had in the marble sink and looked up at your reflection.

The duchess looked back.

You awoke in a sweat. The clock said 9am, but you somehow didn't feel rested. Bad dreams you supposed. Getting up for the day, you didn't recognize that the first of many changes had begun as your newfound passenger had begun your steady transformation. But what did she want? And why might Cloe want you to have her necklace?
