This choice: The potion only lasts a few hours  •  Go Back...
Chapter #6

In the cool evening air...

“Well, it should only last a few hours.” Lyn’s expression lightened slightly that it wouldn’t be too long that she would be shrunken for. “And it should make you a few inches tall. Maybe 3 or 4.” Lyn’s expression darkened again. So small. “At least that’s what Canas told me.” Lyn didn’t know quite how to feel about that last one. That mage could be quite terrifying, but he was usually reliable when it came to magic. If that’s where Hector had gotten the potion from, then it would probably work as described.

As Hector looked on at her expectantly, Lyn considered her situation. Being so small would be humiliating. Especially around Hector, who she… didn’t know quite how to feel about. But, she did agree to this, so she was backed into a corner. At least it would only be for a few hours, she told herself.

“Okay, fine.” Lyn said as she popped open the bottle. “I’ll drink it. Just why do you want me to shrink anyways?”

“Great. This should be fun.” Hector said, with a smile on his face as he neglected to answer Lyn’s question.

Lyn steeled herself as she looked down at the open vial. It would be okay, she’d be tiny, but Hector was a good friend, and he’d take care of her. Even if he was the one making her shrink in the first place. She lifted the bottle to her lips, smelling the sweet liquid inside, before she tilted it into her mouth, swallowing the liquid in a single gulp. As she felt the potion hit her stomach, she immediately felt its effects. A tightness spread over her whole body, almost as if she was being compressed. Then a rapid feeling of vertigo hit as her vision began to drop rapidly.

Lyn knew what would happen to her once she drank the potion, but experiencing it for herself was something else. After what felt like a mere second, she had been reduced to half her size, and she just kept on shrinking. She stepped back, disoriented from the ground seemingly shifting beneath her feet.

After what felt like forever, but in reality was likely only a handful of seconds, Lyn had finished shrinking. She stumbled, still disoriented, and took a knee, putting her head in her hands for a moment. She knew it wouldn’t change anything, but it was easier for her to deny her situation if she didn’t look up at the giant that now stood before her.

Hector looked down in amazement at his little friend. He had thought about giving her the potion before, but actually seeing her shrunken before his eyes was still a sight to behold. He crouched down on the ground nearby her and unclasped the armored glove from his hand as he lowered it gently next to Lyn. “Here, climb in my hand. I’ll get you off the ground.” He offered.

“You want me to ride in your hand?” Lyn asked, clearly taking offense at his offer.

“Unless you’d rather stay on the ground.” Hector shot back, “Come on, it’s dangerous for you. I don’t want you getting stepped on or lost.”

“Maybe you should have thought about that before you shrunk me.” Lyn grumbled, but she did oblige as she climbed into his palm. Even to get up what used to seem like such an insignificant distance, she had to put both of her own hands onto his, and swing her legs around to get up. His hand was warm, and it was softer than the ground she was standing on before. The reality began to set in that she was actually being held in the palm of Hector’s hand. She took a seat before she was lifted upward into the air as Hector stood up.

Lyn groaned as she was hit with a strong feeling of vertigo once again as she rose up into the air. “Lyn?” Hector asked, concerned, noticing her discomfort. “Are you sure you’re okay?”

“I’m fine!” She retorted angrily. “It’s just that I’m not used to being so small, and you lifted me up too fast! This is all your fault! Why did you even want to shrink me in the first place? Are you just trying to rub your victory in my face?”

Hector was surprised at Lyn’s anger. He figured she’d be mildly annoyed, but with her pride already wounded from losing their duel, being reduced to this size was certainly not doing her mood any favors. “I’m sorry Lyn, it’s not that I’m trying to gloat. I thought it would be cute to see you shrunken so small. I didn’t know you’d hate it this much.”

Lyn was taken back at his words. “You-, do I look cute to you now?!” She yelled, almost falling over from Hector’s hand shifting slightly as she tried to stand up. She sat back down, still fuming. It was fine, she told herself. She could still look intimidating sitting down.

Hector apparently didn’t agree though, as she saw him suppress a smile. “Well, yeah. I’d say so. Though you also looked cute before you shrunk.”

Lyn felt her face glow bright red. “Hector, if you’re trying to flirt with me you’re doing a very bad job.”

Hector chuckled, ”I think y-”

“Fine, just take me back to our base now.” Lyn ordered, crossing her arms and turning her head, causing her hair to whip around behind her. She did her best not to look at Hector, but it was quite a challenge considering how much of her view he took up. “At least I’ll be back to normal by morning.” She said as she watched the sun lowering.

Hector decided it wasn’t wise to talk back and risk angering his little friend any more. She may be tiny, but her sword was still very sharp, and he would prefer to keep all of his fingers. So he cupped his hands around Lyn and set off. Since they had been training, their camp was an hour’s walk or so. The sun would no doubt be almost down by the time they were back.

As he walked, Lyn could tell Hector was trying his best to keep her steady, probably remembering how shaken she’d been when he had lifted her too quickly earlier. He’d cupped his other hand around her, presumably to prevent her from falling, though he was still holding her at an angle where she could watch their surroundings as he walked. She was a bit surprised that he was being so gentle with her, and she almost felt bad for her outburst earlier. But that feeling quickly subsided when she remembered the reason that Hector needed to treat her like a delicate little flower; because he had been the one who made the size of one!

After what felt like a lifetime of walking in silence for Lyn, she finally saw their base come into view. They were greeted by Eliwood walking up to them. Hector moved to shield Lyn from view with his other hand. “Hector, good to see you. You were out with Lyn again, right? Is she back yet?”

Eliwood looked at Hector standing in front of him. Then looked down at his hands. “Hector… you didn’t?”

“Hey, she drank it herself! It’s not like I poisoned her or anything!” Hector defended himself as he opened up his hands to show the tiny swordswoman to Eliwood.

“Lyn! You’re so small!” He said as he looked down at her.

“Thanks, I hadn’t noticed,” she said, unamused.

“I’m sorry, I knew I shouldn’t have let Hector get his hands on that potion.”

“Hey, I’m not a child!” Hector butted in, but they just ignored him.

“It’s fine, he’s right, I did agree to drink it if I lost our duel. And it’s not so bad, Hector said I’ll be back to normal in a few hours.”

“Hmm, I guess if you’re okay with this… Do you know where you’re going to stay tonight Lyn? It’s probably best if you aren’t on your own when you’re this small.”
