Unlike Claude, Petra had managed to speak to Bernadetta once, shortly after one of their classes. The Brigid princess had compared the other girl to prey, and more specifically, to a rabbit. The taller woman had merely meant it as a commentary on the shy classmate's personality, but the latter had somehow managed to get it into her head that the former wanted to hunt and possibly eat her.
That prior conversation made Petra's current plan quite ironic.

While the others were squabbling, Petra tuned them out, listening carefully. It was faint, but she could hear a little sound, like the scratching of a mouse. She silently moved for the other end of the bookcase, crouching down to her hands and knees. Her prey was getting closer. The instant the tiny bob of purple hair appeared, she pounced.
Bernie started to scream longer and louder than ever before.
Almost reflexively, Petra moved one finger to cover her captive's mouth. This was a trick she used when she was trying to capture multiple creatures, so that one successful capture didn't lead to the others running away. Of course, as soon as she does it, she realizes her mistake - ther was only one tiny Bernie.
But at the same time, she had just prevented Bernie from revealing her catch to the other students. Perhaps that would prove useful...
