“Every day, Natasha.” Ariadne’s tone was steady, but her folded arms and unhinged eyes told Natasha that her request had been denied. “Every day, you prove more and more how I’ve failed as a mother. You think I don’t know about your nightly escapades? You think I don’t know about that boy, Jonathan? And now you have the audacity to ask me for what may well be a gift from him?”
Natasha’s thin eyebrows launched themselves to the top of her forehead. Of all people, she was dating Jonathan Ingerman? She wasn’t sure which was worse; that she, who was a straight man not five minutes ago, was dating a boy, or that the boy in question was her blockheaded bully! Natasha looked at her sisters: Gloria, who was shocked at the development, and Ursula, who seemed more concerned at the prospect of having her own boyfriend.
“Don’t try and act surprised, young lady!” Ariadne’s shrill voice dragged Natasha out of her thoughts. It wasn’t for long, as she saw the gemstone begin to glow in Ariadne’s hand. Natasha and her sisters shut their eyes, and hoped whatever their mother wished didn’t have the terrible consequences they knew it would.
