Despite the fairly decent meal she'd devoured, her stomach let out another growl. It was strange, but she almost felt more hungry now than she had before eating. Instinctively she checked her backpack for more food, though she knew she'd eaten it all. Still, it couldn't hurt to check.
Just as she suspected, there wasn't any food left. However, her stomach was starting to cramp in protest. It was as if she hadn't eaten anything. That's what she got for skipping breakfast. She'd just have to make sure to have a big dinner when she got home.
A few minutes later, Nathan had finished eating and was hunched over his notebook, taking notes on the statues and other things he found around the ruins. At first Kat curiously poked around, trying to see if she could find any other interesting artifacts, but she found the hunger growing more and more distracting as time went on. Soon, it was all she could do to avoid demanding they leave to get food immediately.
"Nathan! Time to go!" Kat called as she shoved her backpack back on, she couldn't take it anymore. She was just too hungry!
"I'm almost done, Kat!" he called back, not bothering to look away from his notebook, "We've only been here for a few hours. Still, I guess we probably should leave before it gets dark."
After what seemed like forever, he finally tucked his notebook into his bag, and made his way to the pedestal, "Here, can you carry this?"
Kat took the fat statue from him and placed it in her bag, while he did the same with the other two statues. The statue was surprisingly heavy, and she could feel its weight pulling on her shoulders as it rested in her bag. She followed Nathan towards the front of the temple, and into the forest.
She stayed quiet as they walked, trying to ignore how hungry she was, though Nathan talked enthusiastically the whole trip back to the jeep about what he'd found and the significance of it. She found it hard to care while her stomach felt like it was devouring itself, but she tried her best to pay attention.
She was still listening to Nathan as they climbed into the jeep. She was surprised at how alert she felt considering how hungry she was. She glanced at her brother and noticed he looked even more tired than he had when they'd first arrived.
It was almost completely dark by the time they had loaded up the jeep and were on the road. Kat was starting to feel light-headed from how hungry she felt. She couldn't recall ever feeling this hungry before. She was absolutely ravenous.
"Hey, would you mind dropping me off at the burger place near our house?" Kat asked, unable to resist her hunger any longer.
"Sure, you must be starved," Nathan said, smiling as Kat's stomach let out another loud growl.
A few minutes later they were pulling up to a small brick building with a large sign out front saying "Benny's Burgers". Kat opened the door and hopped out. Her stomach let out another loud growl as the smell of fast food hit her. She quickly waved goodbye to her brother and practically ran into the building.
She went to the counter and placed her order, glad she didn't have to wait in line and sat down at a table a few minutes later with a huge burger, two large fries and a large drink. She began to devour the food ravenously. She was so hungry. Each bite tasted so good, and her hunger slowly began to subside as she shoveled the food into her eager mouth. By the time she finished though, her pants felt tight on her bloated belly as she sat rubbing it.
She couldn't believe how much she'd eaten. She rarely ate fast food, let alone this much fast food. However, what was weird was that she still felt a little hungry. Her stomach was stretched tight like a drum, she'd eaten more than she probably ever had in one sitting, and yet still her stomach let out a small gurgle as it asked for more food.
Kat bit her lip, glancing towards the counter. She could always get some more food, it didn't have to be a lot. However, she knew that it was getting late. She had school in the morning and she knew eating this late probably wouldn't be good for her waistline. However, she was just so hungry.
