Princess of the Four Swords

It has been the ideal summer weekend for you so far. No work. No studies, no chores or errands left over. It was two days of absolute freedom to enjoy before returning to the grind on Monday. And you planned to spend it doing nothing besides relaxing, watching TV and playing video games to unwind after such a busy week. You were playing through some of the older Zelda games on your Switch late into the night. Perhaps you were playing a bit later into the night than you should have, but it was your break to enjoy so why not have fun while you could. Though this did eventually put you in the embarrassing position of passing out in your seat while in the middle of a game. You slept there, looking surprisingly peaceful against the light coming from the television screen with the music quietly echoing in the room.

You woke up several hours later. “Ughhh. Maybe I overdid it last night” you muttered as you started to open your eyes. You pondered showing a bit more restraint with your breaks in the future if you intended to enjoy the whole thing. But when you opened your eyes, everything you could see was very very wrong. You were no longer in your room. You werent even inside. You were laying in the middle of a field that you did not recognize. Was this some sort of prank some of your friends were pulling on you? As you looked around you saw a few cottages which looked a lot older in style than the buildings in your area. Still no clues to where you were. Then you got a much bigger hint to your location. Though this hint made you question if you were still passed out and dreaming more than anything. Crawling along the ground not too far was a short octopus looking creature. It looked almost exactly like the octoroks from the Zelda games you were playing. But this cant be real. Those games are fictional. If you were seeing them, either your gaming habits are even more unhealthy than you originally thought or you... were somehow in the land of Hyrule.

Thankfully the octorok didnt seem to notice you but the next passerby did take notice. “Youre a strange looking person. Such short ears. And strange clothes you have? You're from someplace far away aren't you?” a chipper feminine voice spoke. Turning towards the source of the voice your jaw almost dropped. Standing right by you was none other than the titular princess of the series herself. It was Princess Zelda. Judging by her outfit and the large bow, it was the one from Four Swords. You were so shocked that you couldn't really respond to her. You just stared in a stunned stupor. Zelda simply giggled. “I suppose you know who I am, based on that reaction. I guess anyone, even foreigners, would be shocked to see the princess out of the castle greeting them.” You simply nodded in response. Zelda smiled and reached a hand down to help you up from the ground, which you accepted.

“I've never seen anyone like you before. Where are you from? Some faraway kingdom?” You paused for a moment not quite sure how to answer this without sounding like a crazy person. You guess you could tell her half-truths. Just leave out any reference to her and her world being works of fiction where you are from. “I guess you could say that. I... I know this will sound crazy but I'm... from another world.” you said hesitantly as you tried to choose your words carefully. Zelda looked shocked, but she seemed to believe you which you suppose is good since this is the closest version of the truth you could really tell her. You weren't good enough at lying to come up with any alternate cover story. “By the goddesses. That's amazing. Are there others with you here?” she asked with her face growing more and more excited. You only shook you head. “No it's just me. I'll be honest. I don't even know how I ended up here. I wasnt trying to travel to this world I just kinda... appeared here.” Zelda looked a bit more somber. “Oh you poor think. I wish I could do something. I know some magics but nothing that could help you with getting home.” she thought for a moment. “Hmm. But I think I know one way I could help you.”

The princess suddenly reached into a bag she was carrying, shuffling though various supplies and trinkets before pulling out a blackish cap with some red markings. “Here, put this on.” she said eagerly as she handed the cap to you. You stared at it and then her curiously as the princess continued to encourage you to put it on. It will help, just trust me.” Seeing no other option, you did as the princess suggested and placed the cap on your head. Almost instantly you felt a sudden wave of dizziness as the cap's magic started to impact you. Your vision got blurry and Zelda seemed to be stretching further and further away from you. You shut your eyes as the dizziness got worse and laid back on the ground trying to fight the feelings.

Eventually they stopped. You felt something large brushing against your head for a moment but then nothing. As you slowly opened your eyes you were in even greater shock than before. The princess, who just seconds ago was slightly shorter than you was now a towering giantess. The blades of grass seemed to go up past your waist. You were shrunk. You couldnt have been any bigger than a field mouse. “Z-zelda? What happened to me?” The towering princess giggled a bit at your reaction as she held the cap that did this to you between her fingers, waiting for it to return to its original size before putting it away. “Sorry I wasn't more open with you, but this is the only way I could sneak an outsider into the castle. You definitely need help, and I won't be able to do anything I you cant come with me. But this way I can easily sneak you past the guards and into my chambers where you'll have shelter.” You sighed in relief. It seems Zelda was doing this for a good reason. And you definitely couldn't argue with the land's royalty offering you food and shelter when you were lost and alone. “So then you'll unshrink me once I'm past the guards?” You questioned, causing the princess to laugh. “Sorry, but I can't risk anyone spotting a mysterious man in my chambers. It will go poorly for both of us. Especially for you. You going to have to stay like that. Thankfully the Gnat Hat's magic can be reversed with other magic so its not like you're permanently stuck like that.” You sighed, not liking this, but also unable to argue against her point. “Okay then... if this is the only way.” Zelda smiled and picked you up like you were a toy. “Perfect. Now remember to keep quiet. We don't want anyone else finding you. “ she placed you into her back and made her way back to the castle. You don't know how or why this all happened, but it seemed like you were in for one heck of an adventure with the princess.
