You were sitting alone in your room playing a fairly unknown game called Fuga: Melodies of Steel. It had been a long time since you had lost yourself in a video game this much before. This little-known game that you feel had slipped under most people’s radars revolved around a group of furry children driving a tank called the Taranis in order to fight back against the Berman empire and hopefully find their missing parents.
Given the dark nature of this game’s story, you couldn’t help but feel bad for the kids, hence why you were aiming for the true ending where every single one of them lives by the end. The game taught you about the Taranis’s ultimate weapon, the Soul Cannon, very early on during the tutorial, and the consequences that it would bring if you found yourself struggling against a particularly hard boss. Simply put, if you were getting your ass kicked, a feminine voice on the radio would advise you to use the Soul Cannon… at the expense of a child’s life. And if you actually followed through with that idea, they would be gone for good.
Ever since the tutorial forced you to see what could happen to them, as well as spending a good five minutes crying to yourself, you swore that you were going to avoid using the Soul Cannon like the plague. It may be in the game as a last resort for those who are really struggling, but you really didn’t want any of these kids to die. They were still very young and you kept telling yourself that they’ll go on to live great lives ahead of them once the unfair hell that they’re going through is over.
But regardless of how you felt about the kids, the one you found yourself the most attached to was Mei Marzipan. Being the youngest of the group, you thought she was the cutest thing you had ever seen, and no-one else could steal her crown as your favourite character. Mei was an energetic little puppy who wanted to be friends with everyone, and she thinks the Taranis got big by eating. Add in her soft appearance and big round eyes, and it's near-impossible to not want to hug her.
After playing the game for so long, you decided to stop for the day when you made it to an intermission. Admittedly, you were getting kinda tired, so you put the controller down and shut off the game system so you could let sleep take you. You were in no hurry to finish the game by any means, but as you were trying to go to sleep, you couldn’t help but wonder where the story would take these cute little furries that you had gotten so attached to next. Eventually, you stopped theorising about all the little possibilities on your mind, and you fell asleep.

When you woke up from your slumber, you noticed that your mattress felt… harder than usual. It didn’t feel very cozy at all. This feels more like… steel. You had also been playing Fuga for a prolonged period of time with your bedroom lights turned off, so it was real jarring for your eyes to adjust to a bunch of bright lights up on the ceiling. Speaking of which, they were really high up there. You just assumed that your eyes must be playing funny tricks on you again, seeing things appear further back than they actually were. And that would’ve been the case, had you not noticed the table by your side.
You were in shock and awe when you looked up to see just how big the table was. It was gigantic! And when you took a few steps back to see what was on it, you saw what appeared to be some sort of picnic basket. Whoever was here before you must’ve really dug deep into it, as you could make out bits of crumbs and debris on the floor. The familiar look of this room soon hit you like a truck. Were you… in the kitchen of the Taranis? But how was this possible? And why did you seem to be the size of a bug? There were so many questions running through your head right now, and no matter how many times you pinched yourself, you quickly realised that you weren’t dreaming.
Suddenly, you heard what sounded like a series of big, but light thumps echoing from outside the kitchen. As the thumps got louder and brought a bunch of violent tremors along with them, you saw someone emerge from the darkness. The source of these ground-shaking thumps was a very young puppy who wore a white dress and donned a red scarf around her neck. Her blonde hair was a little bit of a mess, and you could tell she had probably just woke up in the middle of the night as she yawned into her paw.
It didn’t take long for you to realise who this familiar bundle of joy was. It was Mei Marzipan! But… why was this happening? Under normal circumstances, you shouldn’t be this small. She’s only a little kid after all. Then again, waking up inside the world of your favourite video game, at only three inches tall no less, was anything but normal.
You had no time to process the situation at hand as the drowsy Mei began to walk into the kitchen. Every time one of her paws pressed down against the floor, you felt the world shake all around you as a loud booming sound ruptured your ears. It was honestly frightening how a little girl’s footsteps felt like a series of earthquakes for someone as small as you.
Mei continued to walk towards you, but the tired puppy didn’t seem to know that you were there. As her big paws came closer and closer, you decided that you had to get this kid’s attention if you didn’t want to be stepped on. You jumped up and down, frantically moving your arms about as you shouted at the top of your lungs, “HEY, STOP! LOOK! I’M DOWN HERE!”
