After deliberating for a little bit, Isabelle finally says, “Okay. Rosie, thanks for your offer. I think I’ll take you up on it. I’m assigning you as the human’s new caretaker.”
“Really?” Rosie says excitedly.
“Yes. I’m not really in a position to take care of him, considering all the work I have to do. So it’s better if someone with more free time watches over him.”
Rosie claps her paws together and hops up and down. “Awesome!” she cries.
Isabelle looks down at you on her desk. “You’ll be safe with Rosie. She’s sort of rambunctious, but she’s one of the nicest animals in the entire town.”
You nod and turn to Rosie, looking up at her excited face. “So, I’ll be living with you from now on?” you ask.
“Yep!” she says. “I told you that already, silly! I’d love to have a roomie—especially one as special as you! I don’t have a bed for a little guy like you, though, but I can totally make one! But first, I wanna show you around the town. I bet you’re gonna be living here for a while, so you better get to know the place and the people!”
“She’s right,” Isabelle says. “Considering your problem is so... unique... it’ll probably take a long time to figure out how to solve it. I hate to say it, but you should get comfortable in our town, because you might be stuck here for a while.”
You sigh, but manage to smile. “You know what? I really don’t mind. You both seem nice, and I wouldn’t mind spending more time with you two.”
This earns a smile from both Isabelle and Rosie. But Rosie takes it even further, and reaches for you with a white-furred paw. You yelp as you’re snatched up in her tight fuzzy grip, with your arms pinned to your sides, and lifted all the way up to her face. Her paw is soft, but you’re dazed by the sudden movement, and worried about what the cat girl is about to do.
Thankfully, she merely nuzzles you against her furry cheek, purring quietly as she does so. Isabelle giggles as she watches the scene. You smile and manage to pull one arm free from Rosie’s fist, using it to pat her on the cheek. She’s certainly energetic and affectionate, but you find that endearing.
“This is gonna be so epic!” Rosie says, pulling you away from her cheek and holding you before her face again. “Being the caretaker of a tiny human—maybe that’s gonna be my big break! Like, I bet I can get super duper famous for that.”
“Maybe,” Isabelle says. “But remember to focus on actually taking care of him. Don’t play around with him too much.”
“Gotcha!” Rosie says, winking at Isabelle. She then turns her attention to you, and winks at you too. “Alright, little buddy! Let’s go!”
Rosie holds you against her chest, then adjusts her grip on you so you’re facing away from her, and your view isn’t blocked by her body. She then turns and skips to the door. You immediately start to feel sick, and yell up at Rosie to take it easy. She glances down, sheepishly grins, mouths the word “sorry”, and begins to walk normally.
“Bye, you two!” Isabelle says as she resumes working. “Be safe!”
“Bye, Isabelle!” you and Rosie say together. Then, the cat girl carries you out the door, leaving the town hall and entering the town itself.
The sun is shining, and the sky is clear. There’s a breeze, and things seem slightly chilly, though Rosie’s body heat helps you keep warm. It seems to be the start of autumn, judging by the leaves and grass starting to turn shades of orange and brown. As you look around the town, you see various small homes, trees, and dirt paths, and nearby is a plaza with a massive tree in the center. Also, you notice a couple other anthropomorphic animal people in the distance. You see no humans, though.
“Welcome to our town!” Rosie says, looking down at you. “So, like I said, I guess the first thing to do is show you around. I’ll tell you about the town’s layout and introduce you to the people. I’m probably the best person to do that. I’m, like, a total superstar, so I know everyone in the town!”
“Oh, really?” you ask.
“Yep! This whole place is pretty much my fan club!”
“You’re that popular?”
“Of course, silly! Everyone loves Rosie! But come to think of it, I can’t introduce you to 100% of the villagers right now.”
“Why not?”
“All the boys are gone. Not forever, I mean—they’ll come back, but right now, they’re out of town for all sorts of reasons. Visiting family, vacations, camping... and the mayor’s gone too. He’s helping one of the guys build a vacation home with Nook’s Homes.”
“So... basically, the town’s full of girls right now?”
Rosie nods. She then giggles and lifts you up to her face again. “You kinda picked a weird time to visit. Did you come here on purpose just to check out all the pretty girls?”
“W-what?! No!” you yell, feeling yourself blushing a bit. “I didn’t choose to come here at all, remember?”
Rosie winks and laughs. “Hey, I was just teasing, silly! Don’t worry.”
You roll your eyes, and Rosie lowers you to her chest again. You resume scanning the area, and notice an animal person coming closer. You feel a bit nervous about encountering another one of these giant animal people, but the two you met so far were friendly, so you can only hope the rest of the town is the same.
“Who’s that?” you ask Rosie.
“Oh, I know her!” the cat girl replies. “That’s...”
