You yawn and force yourself to roll out of the bed, and onto the floor, as you had a feeling that was the only way to wake yourself up. After getting dressed you fill a small handbucket with corn and walk out to the large wireframe cage where you keep your hens.
You had three hens, all of them 3 years old. They were called Honey, bluebell, and Tikka. Honey was a sort of golden-whitish-yellow colour that was hard to adequately describe. bluebell was white with the occasional black feather here and there, particularly in her tail, and Tikka, who was brown all over.
Honey was the tallest, and one foot and seven inches. Tikka was next, at one and a half feet, and bluebell was the smallest at one foot two inches, although she was very slowly beginning to catch up to the other two. You weren't sure if those sizes were particularly big or small, but it probably meant they were fully grown.
As all three produced eggs, you checked the hen house fairly regularly, every other day or so. Every so often, bluebell failed to lay an egg, and seemed... embarrassed by it, somehow, though she usually seemed to feel better after a bit of light petting.
Honey was by far the most adventurous of the trio, often attempting to get out of the cage, which was large enough for you to stand up and walk around a small bit in. Bluebell was somewhat timid and preferred to stay inside the henhouse that was located partially in, and partially out of the cage. Tikka seemed kind of...mellow. Laid back. Although, like the other hens, she could be quite affectionate when she wanted to.
You enter your back garden and approach the cage and henhouse, where all three hens are outside, stretching their legs. They notice you and turn towards you, before they start to...shudder.
