Upon returning home, Joe walked straight to mom's study with you following. You were curious as to what he was thinking and from the look on mom's face, so was she. "I know that look all too well, young lady." Bemused, she said. "You are bound and determined to get your way with whatever is on your mind." She sighed. "Let's hear it."

Joe took a breath. "What is the best way to gain the most out of my magic resistance?" Serious, she asked. "I found a new world I want to explore."

You giggled as mom turned to you. "She is curious about the witch mall." Bemused, you said. "She wants to take a look around but that is not wise without magic resistance."

Mom's bemusement grew. "You never could resist the urge to explore." Smiling, she said. "Well, to answer your question, just wishing yourself to be a boy again is not enough. You need to meditate, use your mental strengths to demand the change to come."

"Sometimes, even that is not enough." Serious, you added. "an understanding of how magic works will also be beneficial to you gaining resistance to its effects."

"Normally, as a girl, a witch boy can safely walk through the witch mall with an escort." Turning serious, mom said. "However, you are the heir to the throne of all mad scientists. That said, there will be many witches who will be tempted to make your transformation permanent."

"Why?" Worried, Joe asked. "Aren't witches and mad scientists friends?"

"Well, both sides do not consider the other enemies but not friends either." Wincing, you said. sighing, you added, "There are those on both sides who do not get along."

"Hence the two malls are separated to avoid any major confrontations." Serious, mom said. "There are a few shops within the normal mall that are magic and mad science but they are all carefully monitored."

"How much magic resistance would I need to explore the witch mall?" Still determined, Joe asked. "This is what I want to know."

Mom smiled, her bemusement returning. "You should be safe enough with me if you are so very curious of what you will find." Smiling, she said. "Only you need to understand that walking through the witch mall will send the clear signal that you are curious about magic and interested in learning it."

"Well... I am, sort of." Honestly, Joe said. "But I'm also curious about dad's mad science."

You shared a smile with mom who nodded. "We will go to the witch mall as a family tomorrow after school." Bemused, she said. "I doubt your father would care to tag along..."

"No but I would be honored to show my ever curious offspring the chaotic science mall the following day to show her all the options before her... or him." His voice echoing, dad said.

You shuddered as dad gave a short laugh before his voice silenced. "He creeps me out when he does that." Frowning, you said.

Mom sighed. "Although he seems to be gone for weeks at a time, he is always watching over us all." Softly, she said. "It takes some getting used to."

"I'd rather talk about this face to face, dad." Serious, Joe called out.

She jumped as dad suddenly appeared in the room, grinning. "As you wish."
