You knew that dad would be monitoring your outgoing calls since you 'got disconnected' so you decided to call mom magically. "Would you like to see some magic, Joe?" Calmly, you asked. "I promise I won't do anything to you."
Joe opened his mouth to answer but remained silent. He instead gave a short nod and you summoned a small crystal ball to your hand. "What are you going to do with that?" Curious, Joe demanded. "Are you planning to read me my fortune?"
You giggled. "Crystal balls are like cellphones for witches." bemused, you explained. "We use them to contact each other, take pictures from a distance, and so on. I summoned this to call mom."
With that, you waved your hand over the crystal ball. "Mom... It's Gina." Gazing into the glowing glass, you said. "I found Joe; dad picked him up from school. He told him about us but he also tried to convince Joe to make a choice. He ran to the lone tree to think things through."
An image of mom appeared inside the crystal ball. "I feared he would try something like that." Sighing, she said. She turned to Joe. "Are you alright, dear? I know this comes as a shock."
"More like a bombshell." Frowning, Joe countered. "Dad made me feel like I was trapped in a tug of war between you and him." He teared up. "You two are not getting a divorce, are you?!"
"Oh no, honey!" Cooing Joe, mom replied. "Heavens no! I love your father for better or worse!" She then sighed. "Your father just has difficulty being anything but blunt and straight to the point; he is a scientist, a great one at that."
"He just has horrible bedside manners." Smiling slightly, you added.
"You are at the age when two great powers open themselves up to you." Ignoring your comment, mom explained. "However, you can only have one or the other." She smiled. "There is a school that teaches the usage and laws both each power. I would love to give you a tour of both schools so you can make an educated decision."
"How long do I have to decide?" Frustrated, Joe asked. "Why am I the last to know about this?"
Mom winced. "Not long, I fear." Apologetically, she replied. "In hindsight, I believe we should have brought you into the loop a lot sooner but what is done is done."
Joe sighed, tearing up. You could tell he was very frustrated and a little frightened. "I wanted to be an athlete..." Sourly, he muttered.
"You still can." Calmly, you said. "This is just part of who and what we are."
"I have information on both schools here at home, sweetie." Smiling slightly, mom said. "Let Gina teleport you here and we'll go over them together. I'll call your father..."
"Dad and I got disconnected, mom." Wincing, you said. "He might be a tad grumpy."
Mom frowned at that. "He hasn't seen grumpy yet." Flatly, she said. "When I get through with him for not informing me he had found Joe..." She sighed, seeing Joe shaking his head. "I'll be civil with him, I promise."
Joe released a sigh then turned to you. "I guess we should head home."
You smiled at mom who giggled slightly before ending the call and causing the crystal ball to vanish. "You might want to prepare yourself, bro." Bemused, you said. "Teleportation can be a bit disorienting the first few times."
"Teleportation?" Surprised, Joe asked. "You can do that?"
You giggled then teleported Joe and yourself back to the house. Joe stumbled slightly but managed to keep his balance as he shook his head. "What a rush..." Taken back, he said.
You and mom giggled. "Not bad for your first time, Joe." Smiling, mom said. "Most boys pass out the first time around."
"It's because we raised him to be strong." Appearing in the room, dad said. "He is, after all my son, my legacy, my apprentice..."
"He is also my son, Geo." Coldly, mom said. "You failed in your duty as my husband to be true to me; care to explain your actions?"
"Your take of the situation is flawed only by your heightened emotional state." Flatly, dad argued. "I was completely truthful; I merely chose my own time to tell the entire truth."
"Omission of the truth is still a falsehood." Unimpressed, mom countered.
"Something you are both guilty of when involving me!" Annoyed, Joe blurted out. "Stop arguing with each other and give me some answers, if you don't mind!"
Mom and dad looked at each other, surprised. "He has a point." Wincing, mom said.
Dad nodded. "Indeed." Sighing, he said. "We do owe him at least an explanation."
