A set of three categories intended to act as challenges or quick suggestions for anyone interested. Re-worked from the old version of "When You Gotta Go!". The choices are 1, 4 and 5 since 2 and 3 have been unlisted. Some original stories have been deleted, though I have saved my own as well as one other story.
New Characters
Stories that involve brand new characters that you conceive and design right now and get to writing! Spontaneity is a good thing; just think of a character idea you'd like to run with and start typing. Intended to foster new ideas and just seeing where they go.
Original Characters
Stories that can be about original characters that you've already had that you may want to write more about, as well as letting others give their interpretation. This is where you can place your own already established characters into a situation of your choice, develop it how you'd like or let others decide what they'd like to see. The intention is to show your own ideas off as well as add to that of others so that we might exchange new ideas or compare writing styles and subjects to each other.
Themes & Context
Themes are what tie stories together, the answer to the question "What is this story about?" which is something we as writers should be able to answer if asked. It could be described as "a unifying or dominant idea" according to dictionary.com.
Context can be described as "The set of circumstances or facts that surround a particular event, situation, etc" according to dictionary.com. it's something that should be represented within any story so that readers have a good idea of the overall situation, leading to a more fulfilling environment and a sense of immersion.
Themes & context are both absolutely integral to any story, even quick, casual ones. Here we can focus on the themes and/or context first, and think of original characters to insert within once we start writing.
Remember for each Challenge:
If the story hasn't started yet and we're only looking at choices, always leave an 'other' option.
If the story has started, leaving an 'other' option is optional.
