The Burial of Earl Sarwyck

    by: Falcon Author IconMail Icon
In almost every castle, including Camelot, there’s a Godswood. A Godswood is usually a small wooded area within the walls of castles throughout the realm. It is primarily used as a place of worship by those who carry on the traditions of, and pray to, the Old Gods. To followers of the Faith, they are treated as gardens and as a private wooded area of solitude.

The ceremony would normally have been in Riverspring’s chapel, if it were not in ruins (Riverspring has definitely been suffered on many fronts). So the burial is in the Godswood instead.

It is about to begin soon. Every attendant were having a conversation, including me with my grandfather, Duke George of House Wincestre.
I keep insisting grandfather that I would contribute half of the winnings in the tourney. He gives me a kind smile in response, ”Your mother and father would have been so proud of you”, he said sorrowfully. He still grieves over my mother, his daughter Maryam.
And then he looks at something behind me. When I turned to that direction, it was more like someone. I saw Brother Harwyn enter the Riverspring Godswood with a hooded, bearded man dressed in red robes and with a sword on his belt (http://vignette4.wikia.nocookie.net/game...). Must be someone from the cult of Deros1. Its cult is quite popular in southern Midgard, especially in the Free City of Liberio where its main temple is located.

I excused my grandfather and went to speak with the man with Brother Harwyn. It’s not everyday that I get to meet someone from that cult after all, ”Greetings. I am...”
”Arthur of House Pendragon, the 15th of his name, High King of the Isles and the Woods and the Mountains”, the man in red interrupted.
”I guess Brother Harwyn here already told you about”, I chuckled.
”No need. You look like your father when he was about your age”
”You knew my father?”, I asked as I raised an eyebrow and then looked at Harwyn.
”And he knows you too”, Brother Harwyn said with a knowing smile.
I looked back at the man. ”Who are you?”, I asked him.
The man in red replied, ”The last time we met, was when you were a newborn...”

That’s when Elyana turned up, ”Hello follower of Deros. I am Lady Elyana Sarwyck, daughter of the late Earl Sarwyck. You are just in time for the ceremony. Were you close to my father?”, and his reply was ”You have changed much in 15 years, little sister...”, that's when I realized who he is!
”Alester?!" she gasped, "You have really returned?”
”Harwyn told me of our father's death", Alester said, "It was my duty to come. If only I returned home sooner”
Elyana gave her older brother a tight hug, just happy that he had returned at all. In the early years she was angry and hurt that he was gone, but not anymore.
Gawen was happy to see him too and hug him also. And then Sir Mors showed up, and Alester said ”You are uglier than I remembered. You must have really upset someone”, to which Mors responded, ”Well you know me. Always good at making friends”, and they both chuckled and they clasped their forearms.
Alester also met Lord Herbert, Sir Robert, Lady Selena and Grandfather, just before the ceremony began.

While Ravella, Priestess of Riverspring, prayed for Earl Sarwyck's soul, I pondered. In the dream I had last night, one warrior had a dog’s head, and now that I come to think of it; the dog was black, just like the sigil of House Westford! And another warrior in the dream had a flaming sword and the sigil of House Sarwyck, could that be Alester?! This is just getting strange…

When Ravella finished her prayer, Alester was asked by Elyana to go first. He is, after all, the heir to Riverspring. As Sir Alester stepped towards his father laying on an altar, I hear one of the Thegns whisper to another, ”Who is that man?”, and the other Thegn replied ”I believe that is the elder Sarwyck, the one who disappeared. He has certainly changed, but I recognize him...”

When Sir Alester stood by his father, he seems to make a silent prayer... and as he raises his hands, and they suddenly starts to flame! However, he doesn't seem to be affected by that. He puts his right hand on his fathers hands and his left on the head, with the hands still aflame, but it appears to do no harm on the body. This must be some custom of the Cult. I heard rumors of members having magical powers.
Magic flames.
Could they be true?
