The next day rolls around, as your alarm clock happens to remind you until you shut it off, and you prepare for what should be an easy time babysitting Sarah, the shy 8 year old girl who lived across the street from you. While you doubt she would get into anything she shouldn't, she's 8 after all, you make sure to tuck things that might be dangerous to her health or that you'd prefer not be seen by her away...including your stash of adult magazines. You shower up after, and then you feel ready for her to come over in about an hour.
However...an hour comes and goes, and Sarah still hasn't come over. By 11:00 in the morning, you're worried. Maybe she wanted you to come over to her place to babysit? Or maybe she's in trouble? You check both the front and back doors to make sure she isn't standing there afraid to ask to come in, and when you still find no sign of her, you decide to go over to her place and investigate why she hasn't come over yet.
You cross the street and reach for the lock box by the door where the spare key is located to punch in the code when something moves in one of the second floor windows. The drapes are drawn together...oddly tight, and you could swear that you saw an eye peeking out for a brief moment. You try the doorknob and find it to be unlocked, so you let yourself in. Immediately, you head upstairs.
"Sarah, it's me, Sean. Is there something wrong?" you say as you approach her room, notified by the colorful plaque on the door. You hear something along the lines of, "Please don't open the door..." yet you ignore it as you gently open the door anyway. The room itself is about what you expect, with bright colors and various little toys of the denizens of Ponyville among other typical girlish things. A diary was on a small desk in the corner, and you have the decency to not be tempted into reading it and shattering what trust you've built up with her. It doesn't take long to find where Sarah is hiding; a big curled up lump shaking in the covers is a dead giveaway.
...Although, is it just you, or is that lump a little big for a curled up 3'9" tall girl?
Sarah responds to your presence with, "Please go away... I-I don't want to be seen like this... I-I must be sick..." However, you aren't buying her excuse and pull the covers off of her. And what you saw surprises you. Somehow, she has grown to roughly 4'8", nearly an entire foot taller overnight. "I'm a freak!" she cries surprisingly loudly. Calmly, you ask, "How did this happen, Sarah? Did you grow this big overnight?" Her reply floors you, said at a normal volume instead of her usual almost whisper.
"N-no... I woke up this morning, I had some Lucky Charms, and then I went and put on my swimsuit because you said you had a swimming pool. And...then after I put it on, I grew up to this height..." Sarah says. Almost an entire foot taller in just a few minutes? That was definitely not normal...but it doesn't make her a freak either. You ask out of concern, "Is your swimsuit hurting you at all?" and she shakes her head and says, "Uh-uh. It grew with me. ...Please don't be scared or hate me!"
You look Sarah in the eye and say, "Now why would I be scared or hate you? I don't think you're a freak, Sarah. You need to learn to stand up for yourself and be the brave girl I'm sure you can be. Now come on, it's much too nice outside to stay bundled up under the covers. Especially when there's a swimming pool ready and waiting!" The girl smiles and wraps you in a surprisingly strong hug and then follows you to your pool.
However, you can't shake the feeling that this isn't the last of Sarah's mysterious growth spurts... If anything, it's but the first of many to come.
