This was a big mistake. Josh's mind was emptied of any knowledge that had to do with his friends and replaced with similar knowledge about his mom and her friends. This included stuff he didn't want to know like his mom's dating life and neighborhood gossip about his friends' parents and other stuff.
Josh was just trying to make sense of what he learned when Leah arrived to pick him up. There wasn't enough time to swap back.
