There was no doubt about it. The fox-like ears coming out of her flowing, golden hair, as well as a set of 9 golden tails twirling behind her could mean only one thing: you were facing a kitsune, and an incredibly powerful one at that.
The girl's body was that of a human woman, a mature and beautiful one at that. With kitsune it's hard to tell if it's her body, of a possessed one, or a trick, a mirage masking a more hideous form. Regardless of its origins, you had to admit that this monster girl had good taste.
The clothes only added to her looks. She was wearing a traditional outfit similar to those worn by ancient shrine maidens: a yellow hakama over a white kimono. On her feet was a pari of tall, black geta, adorned with golden waves. On her left foot was a red-white sock, which weirdly enough reminded you of something, or someone. By contrast, her right foot was resting in her geta without a sock, completely bare to the world, giving you a good look at her long, gold-painted toenails, although calling them "claws" would be just as accurate.
"Has something caught your attention?" the monster girl asked in a mocking tone, intrigued by the attention you were giving her feet. You quickly shifted your eyes to look into her own. As red as a ground cherry they were, you didn't like that at all. It remineded you of that oni girl. You took a fighting stance, ready to attack at any moment. First things first, though, you needed some answers.
"Wretched fiend! What business have you here? This sacred place is off-limits to you kind!" Even though you tried to come as intimidating, the kitsune responded with a giggle, once that made you quite uneasy.
"Teehee, you're such a cute little thing, I almost feel sorry for you."
"Sorry for me!?" You shouted back "Answers my question, or you'll be the one regretting this encounter!"
The fox girl stopped laughing, but the smile still lingered on her lips. *Sigh* "Silly boys these days, always confusing bravery with bravado." She began to stare at the sky as she continued "Aw, what the hell, you're not leaving this place anyway, so I might as well tell you what happened."
The fox sat down at the steps of the shrine, inviting you to do the same. You weren't foolish enough to fall for an obvious trick, especially after that "not leaving" part, but you did sheath your weapon. The kisune loudly sighed.
"Suit yourself. Now, handsome knight, to answer that question of yours. I'm here on a special errand from the Monster Queen herself. My task was to deal with a human uprising, led by the previous owner of this shrine. As you might guess, I was successful, and the insurgence has been dealt with. Currently I'm waiting here for the Monster Queen's next orders, while dealing with the occasional intruders, be it other valiant heros like you, praygin for a blessing, but getting a curse instead, or common burglars, seeking riches, and paying dearly for it."
If it could, your jaw would most definitely be on the floor. This kitsune, an agent of the Monster Queen herself? She must be even more powerful than you thought. To bring the priestess down, as well as a whole army down with her...
"W... W-what happened to the priestess?" You asked, visibly shaking, clearly overwhelmed by the information you just received "W-where i-is she? She c-couldn't h-have d... d-d-"
"Died? Hah, don't make me laugh, that would be too simple, and too light of a punishment for her. She's currently being punished for her transgressions againt the Monster Queen. The punishment is supposed to last 100 years, but I give her 10 years before she snaps and dies. Still better than her men, they just have to last 10 years, yet each one of them snaps after just a day of punishment. I took a small break from punishing them, see?"
As she said it, the kitsune took her right foot out of her geta, and rose it towards your face, giving you a good look at its sole, and what a dirty sole it was. From her to toes, it was covered in sweat, with some lint and dirt stuck to it. Even though you were quite a distance away from here, a peculiar smell reached your nostrils. The funky smell was definitely coming from her foot.
"Ugh, a foul beast indeed. I wouldn't expect the likes of you, even this high in hierarchy, to take good care of your bodies."
The girl pouted, before giving you a toothy grin, shwoing off her fangs. "Aw, don't be so mean. You'll change your mind soon, you'll have no choice but to live with it for a while."
"What do you mean?" You asked, half out of fear, but half out of curiosity "What does your punishment entail?"
The kitsune giggled maniacally, creeping you out. "You still haven't figured it out? I turned them all into socks! And I'll turn you into one too!"
Silence. Complete and utter silence. You were slwoly processing what she just said. With each second your face was getting paler and paler.
"S... Socks? You turn people into socks?..." Your looked at the kitsune's left foot "Then that means it's-"
"BINGO!" the monster girl shouted, enthusiastically taking her left foot of the geta and raising it next to the left one, giving you a good look at the red-white striped sock. It was relatively clean, though there were some darker spots on it, no doubt caused by the fox's sweating. Those stains would forever taint the priestess' body and appearance, were she to ever be released from this torment.
"I must say, though the girl was foolish, she does make a very good sock. She's going to last me for a good while. Who knows, maybe she will survive those 100 years. I wouldn't bet on it if I were you." The girl put back both of her feet into the geta, and began to slowly walk towards you. "The same can't be said for my other socks. They wear out so easily. A tear here, a tear there, and before you know it, it's completely unusable. I then have to destroy it, and bind the human's soul to my foot for all eternity. It feels quite nice, but I'd rather just have another good sock. Will you be the one?"
Blue wisps began to form at the tips of the monster girl's nine tails, and her eyes began to glow blue as well. She was quickly whispering something under her nose, most likely a curse that turned so many humans before you into her footwear. You had to act fast, you don't want to end up as a sock, but you also want to help the priestess! What to do, what to do!?
