Terror leapt into my mind as I noticed our neighbor's, Harold and Juliette Matthews, were standing not even five feet from her, mouths open, bodies trembling. The next thing I noticed was the rifle sitting at Harold's feet, and what must have transpired was clear to me. Joy was covering her breasts with one hand while the other covered her legs as best as she could. With there being so much of her, it was hard to keep up her modesty. My wife was already in their faces, her fear gone as she reprimanded the couple. "That's my daughter you just threatened! Do you realize she could have been killed?! What kind of idiot comes out, guns blazing at every single sound!" I joined her, picking up the gun and throwing it over the fence to their yard. I crossed my arms while my wife kept on her tirade.
"Now, will you please exit my property before I call the police!" Harold and Juliette didn't seem to register any of my wife's demands as they kept their gaze on Joy. My wife snapped her fingers, yet still they remained in their daze. Finally, she slapped Harold across the cheek, and this seemed to be the straw that broke the camel's back.
"Hey!" Harold went for a retaliatory strike, but my hand caught his, and I tossed him back.
"Don't you dare lay a hand on my family Harold!" Juliette rushed to his side and knelt by him.
"That monster behind you both is a danger to this neighborhood! If you won't let us deal with it, then maybe someone else will!" Harold scrambled out of the open gate, Juliette behind him, and they slammed it shut as they retreated. I turned around and sighed, carefully approaching Joy as she seemed to be in tears.
"T-they called me a monster. Am I?"
"Of course not honey. Here," I said, handing her the large, white sheet, "this should suffice for clothing." Joy smiled, wiping her tears away, then she grabbed the sheet and worked it around her body. She stood once she was finished, and I was pleased to see that the simple fabric had worked wonders. She had wrapped it in a toga style, one shoulder free, and the sheet extended to her knees. It seemed to be loose in some areas, but if this trend continued I knew it wouldn't last long.
Just then, I heard sirens in the distance, and Joy looked in the direction they were coming from.
