"DAVEN'S PORT! DAVEN'S PORT! DAVEN'S PORT!" Piper chanted along with the rest of the crowd, energized by the Mayor's speech.
"I never knew you were such a patriot Piper." Dakota joked. "I figured you were more of an anarchist type."
"Oh go fuck yourself," Piper replied with a smile, as she elbowed Dakota in the ribs. "I don't know how it is in Texas but out here we have a little something I call hometown pride
"I call it indoctrination," Zack mumbled under his breath, drawing a sharp kick from Piper.
"Anyways." Piper continued, talking over Zack's whimpering. "It's called hometown pride. Daven's Port was really hurting before Mayor Donahue took over. Stores were closing, the beach was filthy, and neighborhoods were empty. She's really saved the city."
"More like sold the city," Zack whispered to himself, drawing another quick kick from Piper.
"Shut up! I'm sick of you and your dumb ass conspiracy theories!" Piper shouted at the cowering Zack.
"She sounds like an incredible woman," Dakota replied, ignoring her friend's bickering. "I was thinking about maybe joining her reelection campaign. Just something to do this summer."
"Oh, you should totally go for it, Dakota. The Mayor seems nice and I beats hanging out with Zack's pitiful ass all day." Piper responded as she kicked Zack again.
"I didn't even say anything this time!" Zack cried, nursing his bruised shin.
"True. But you wanted to." Piper replied coldly. "And it's the thought that counts."
"Maybe you should join me, Piper," Dakota asked, again ignoring Pipers abuse.
"Nah, I said YOU should go for it, Dakota. Not me." Piper chuckled. "I don't have the patience or the charm for politics, I'd probably get arrested for assault after a week."
"You have a point there," Dakota replied, taking note of Zack's bruised leg. "Alright, wish me luck."
Dakota left her friends in search of Mayor Donahue. She had to crane her neck to see over the mob of people but she could barely, just barely, make out the Mayor at the very end of the convention centre. Dakota did her best to push past the throng of people but eventually ended up having to wait in line to meet the Mayor.
"Well, at least I have time to come up with an elevator pitch." Dakota thought to herself, trying to find the silver lining.
After nearly an hour of waiting Dakota finally got to meet Mayor Donahue. Dakota took a deep breath to calm herself, put on her best smile, and reached out for a handshake.
"Hello, Mayor Donahue. My name is Dakota Johnson. I recently moved to Daven's Port from Texas and I've already fallen in love with the city. I'd love to join your team and help in any capacity to help Daven's Port reach its full potential."
Mayor Donahue looked Dakota, scanning the girl's facial features, and chuckled. Mayor Donahue...
