You start the story on your 12th birthday. Nobody shows up to the party, and after getting nothing but clothing from your family, you go to sleep miserable, wishing that you could disappear from the world forever and nobody but you would know where you went.
You wake up in total darkness, on a hard flat surface. After feeling your way around the area, you conclude you are trapped in a room with either no doors or a door on the ceiling which you cannot reach. You are about to panic when everything starts shaking and light pours in from above...
That's not quite the whole story, though!
You start the story on your 12th birthday. Nobody shows up to the party, and after getting nothing but clothing from your family, you go to sleep miserable, wishing that somebody, anybody would give you the best gift they could to make up for this otherwise horrible birthday.
You wake up the next morning to find a small gift box labeled to you, with no giver on the tag. Curious, you undo the old-fashioned ribbon laces and open the box to find... a miniature version of you?! Wait, no. The one-and-a-half-inch doppelganger is mostly made of plastic, maybe a bit of metal, except it moves and speaks just like a tiny you! Is it a tiny robot, or magic? You might never find out.
This story can switch POV between the two versions of the protagonist at any time. The smaller one is invincible to any and all injury thanks to either advanced materials or magical protection, but can still feel pain! The larger one cannot be hurt or feel much pain from any action his toy clone might try to inflict if there is a lot of conflict between the two. Once the box is open, your two selves might or might not suddenly have the ability to sense or even communicate with each other psychically (some sort of "clone-link").
