This choice: "You can call this an experiment. I need you guys to help me out." -- Gentle • Go Back... "Uhh... I-if you don't mind my asking, what exactly can we help you with...?" Phoenix inquired. He didn't like the sound of Bee's answer any more than the three others in the diminished office.
The colossal brunette gave him a grin. "Loads of stuff, little buddy!"
Phoenix didn't feel reassured, somehow. Maybe it was to do with this woman's tone; he was reasonably sure that "Bee" was younger than him -- probably closer to Maya or Ema's age -- yet she was speaking like he and his three companions in the office were some sort of tiny and cute pets of hers, rather than people she'd just admitted to kidnapping.
"See, I've tried shrinking a few other things before this; mostly small stuff that nobody would notice being gone. Just a couple days ago I tried it on... a friend of mine. She was crashed on the couch over there, sleeping, so I gave it a shot. Worked perfectly, so I was confident about trying it on something bigger next."
The group was listening intently to Bee's explanation. They exchanged looks, but no one spoke up just yet. They expected there was still more to the story.
Apollo was the only one to say anything, muttering, "I miss Ema's take on science already..."
"Your office was the best candidate I could find. Simple enough shape, not too big, and not too many people inside. Sorry if this is inconvenient for ya."
"That's one way to describe it." Apollo said out loud. Bee just smiled, shrugging.
"Well, science never got done without some plans changing." she said. "I hope you don't all stay mad at me."
Finished with her explanation, Bee set the office back down on the table and walked away. As they waited for her to return, the little building's occupants began to talk amongst themselves again.
"We've been kidnapped by a crazy person." Apollo said flatly, falling back onto his preferred armchair.
"Well, she seems pretty nice, at least." Trucy remarked. "For a kidnapper, anyway." Apollo just groaned.
"Hopefully whatever's she's got in mind won't keep us long." Phoenix said. He'd seen a lot of strange things in his career, so what was one more on the list?
"Yeah, somehow I doubt people will just miss that the office has disappeared." Athena said, looking back out the window. "What if someone needs a lawyer?"
Phoenix shook his head. "They can take it up with Bee, I suppose."
Rumbling footsteps told the group that Bee was coming back.
The towering woman appeared beyond the windows again.
"You guys wanna come out of there?" she asked. "I'm ready to get started." indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
