The walk to the office felt quicker than the train ride in, fortunately. Maya had Phoenix to talk to now.
Of course, her enthusiastic conversation with him was underlined by her ongoing thoughts of what her new technique would let her do to him once they arrived, and that made her feel all the more impatient, but Nick always had a lot to say, and it filled the time nicely.
"I sent Apollo and Athena to go and pick up Trucy from school. They should be back soon."
Phoenix led Maya into the familiar office, which she happily strolled into, feeling more at home than she ever did in Kurain, despite having grown up there. She kicked off her sandals; one struck the side of the couch, but the other sailed past it and came to a stop in the middle of the room.
"Not your best shot." Phoenix remarked as he closed the door. He hesitated for a moment, and Maya turned back to glance at him. "... Uhh, you get settled, I'm just gonna go to the bathroom."
"'K." Maya said plainly. She dropped onto the couch after retrieving her wayward sandal. Phoenix left for the bathroom, leaving her to wait.
When would she do it? She wanted to as soon as she could, but would that be the best time?
... Screw it. She was done waiting; as soon as Nick was done in the bathroom, he was shrinking.
The only question left was how small she wanted to make him.
She waited in silence while Phoenix spent an unreasonable amount of time finishing up. She squeezed at the magatama hanging from her neck impatiently.
At last, the door opened and Phoenix returned to the main room.
"So," he said, stepping past her, "Like I said, the kids should be back soon, unless Trucy drags Apollo into buying ice cream again."
"Mm hmm..." Maya mumbled back. Since the moment Nick came back into the room, she'd been concentrating very hard. She could feel the sensation the scroll in the village had described; Nick's rather small measure of spiritual energy was easy enough to get a grip on compared to that of most of the people back in Kurain.
He returned to join her at the couch, and just as he made to sit down, she released the energy she was building up.
Instantly, the effects became obvious.
"Wh-!?"
Phoenix sputtered as he staggered in place. A wide smile split across Maya's face. She watched with the utmost attention as he began to visibly dwindle in size.
"M-Maya, what's-!?"
Maya broke out laughing as Phoenix continued to shrink before her eyes. He was at her chest-height, then her waist, then her knees...
