It was a beautiful day...
...Last Tuesday. Today on the other hand, was a little less fair in the weather department, given the crash of thunder and the downpour of rain that sounded more like bullets raining down on the roof.
On this particular day, Steven was in the tea room of the Wilkos department store, trying his best to wring the water out of his uniform.
He had made a terrible mistake to think the wide-brimmed umbrella was enough.
"Hey." Rob pulled up a chair right up at Steven's table, setting down a hot cup of coffee.
Steven returned Rob's gesture with a smile and wave. Despite their age difference, the two found something that they could mutually bond over. Video games. Specifically, at this point, Mass Effect (with a sprinkling of Battlefront here and there).
It had almost become a ritual. Both of them usually arrived fairly early to work. As such, they spent the first twenty-thirty or so minutes going over their latest achievements.
"So, how is Mass Effect 3 so far?" Rob asked, leaning closer to Steven.
"Its great. Right now, I've just..."
And on and on they talked. This was one of the few times that Steven was thankful to live alone. Even if his budget was pretty tight, unlike Rob, he did not have his parents policing his wallet.
This was not to say those two were the only ones who arrived early. In fact, an unexpectedly large number of people got to the store early. Mona and Laura stood next to each other, the former leaning in to see something the latter had on her phone. Charlotte sat off on her own, sipping a cup of coffee and Luke and Aaron shared brief pleasantries before walking their separate ways. Even Liam had arrived early, to many raised eyebrows, soaked from head to toe from his unexpected shower. These were but a scant few of the people who occupied the tea room.
However, the tranquil scene eventually had to come to an end. Liz noted this as she took a few deep breaths outside the door, internally bracing herself to give a rousing speech before stepping in.
"Alright." she shouted in order to get everyone's attention. "I know that... that..."
Suddenly, a wave of drowsiness hit Liz. No, exhaustion was a better word. It was the type that not only made her muscles ache, but also clouded her mind. She stumbled about trying to stand up.
"You...What...Is..." she slurred he words as she lazily glanced around. She was not the only one to suffer from this malady. For Aaron and Luke had already hit the floor with a crash, Steven fought a losing battle with his eyelids, and Charlotte drunkenly spun in a circle, no doubt trying to fight the effect.
"I..." That was all that came out of Liz's mouth as she succumbed. She unceremoniously crumpled into a heap of limbs onto the floor. Soon, the whole room fell silent save for the quiet breathing associated with sleep.
Which meant no one was awake to see the blue light envelope the vicinity...
