Chapter #6

Dreaming up clues.

The study is an interesting room. There's an electric fireplace in the corner that's always on whenever someone's in here, especially my father, and a few desks as he wanted to make this room inviting to use for more than one person at a time. The desk my father uses is really old, one of the few original pieces of furniture in the mansion, yet very well loved. As Sara and I enter the room, we find my father and Alfred in the middle of a discussion.

"...But sir, surely you can't be serious!" Alfred exclaims.

"Jillian and I've discussed it between ourselves, and our decision is final. You and Beverly may retire or resign any time you wish, provided we can arrange suitable replacements for you, but you may not leave our family." my father replies in his usual tone that meant the topic isn't up for discussion, "We're ashamed to have to say you've been better parents to our daughter than we have, yet it pleases us that she's been in excellent hands under your care. She sees you like family, and we want you to remain as part of our family."

"Did we... suddenly step on the set of The Young and the Restless or something?" Sara asks with confusion, bringing the men's attention to us.

"Ha ha... no, not quite, Sara. It's a pleasure to have you over in our home again." my father says, greeting my friend with a smile, "Can Alfred get you anything before he takes his leave?"

"Um, no thanks. Megan and I need to tackle this homework. Also... something odd is happening to her." Sara replies.

"Oh? What is it, Megan?" father asks before starting to notice the reduced height difference, "M-my goodness! Perhaps we should get you examined... this can't be natural..." Alfred nods in agreement.

I wanted to agree as well, but something... something deep inside told me this was nothing to worry about. I couldn't find the will to disagree with it, so I answer, "No, I'll be fine... Besides, the doctors would probably just say I'm growing without informing us why that is."

"But will you be all right for your friend Davis' birthday, honey?"

"Oh, I'd have to be on Death's doorstep to miss his birthday. I'll be fine." I reassure, and everyone soon drops it for now. In the meantime, I work on today's homework with Sara. We're able to help each other out with it as while we sadly don't have the classes at the same time, we do have most of the same ones this semester. I get stuck with P.E. while she gets Music.

Eventually, we finish our homework, and get summoned for dinner. I receive stares from mother and Beverly, but they don't really press the issue. Maybe Alfred informed them ahead of time? Whatever. The food smells too good to care about much else at the moment! I help myself to a good plateful of it once Sara has taken what she wants, then dive right in shortly after sitting down at my seat.

After I've cleaned my plate, I consider going back for seconds. Normally I don't because... well, I'm pudgy as it is without adding to it, but with my recent growth I figure I ought to be starved. However, after a moment's hesitation, I... decide against it. I could eat more, but something within whispers to me that it isn't necessary. Oddly, it seems to me as though it's the same something that assured my sudden growth spurt was nothing to be concerned about, and I hadn't the will to object this time either.

Sara and I play some games after dinner like Sorry! and Backgammon. I win some, and she wins some. It doesn't really matter since we're both having fun and chatting about stuff. "One of these days, girl, you are going to have to confess to Davis how you feel about him. I mean it!" my friends says.

"I know, but I'm not ready yet." I reply back reluctantly.

"Well you better start getting ready, Megan, as he's not going to wait for you forever. Jump on that train before it leaves the station!" Sara counters.

Interestingly, I feel a little something reacting to her words, knowing she has a point, but I'm not sure what that something was. However, eventually I start feeling tired and we decide it's time to call it a night. So we pack up the games and return them to my room, go through our nightly routines for bed, and then tuck in the beds in our rooms and go to sleep...

I find myself out in the open, nude, but unconcerned. Of all the creatures to have roamed the Earth, none are mightier than I. None are larger than I. This small group of humans, really just a few tribes, are aware of me. Their communications are... limited, but they've already mastered tool and weapon making, and harnessed the power of fire. (as well as learned the valuable lesson that fire is indiscriminate, and must be respected) However, they're aware that nothing they could ever invent can harm me, and that I could snuff out their meager lives in an instant should I so choose.

But they don't fear me, which I find heartwarming. As much as I could destroy them, I do not wish to and I believe they pick up on this. I allow them to worship me... mostly because they stubbornly refuse not to. It's cute, in a way. As I roam, my footsteps shake the ground, yet not a trace of a titanic human footprint left behind. The humans sometimes ask for my aid, and while I will not give it in war, I help a little to improve their lives in other ways. The idea is not to make them dependent on me, as they have great potential but must reach it on their own, merely assist them.

Finally, I come upon the settlement I've helped the humans establish. It's... crude, but it fulfills its needed task. I bend down and gently pick up a male among the group, my head priest I believe. I am careful not to allow my considerable breasts crush the crude homes these people have worked so hard to create as I bring the man to my face in order to hear him better. "You honor us with presence, great one." is a rough translation of what he's saying. It's not in English, but I understand his grunts and sounds as this is what he's trying to tell me.

"It pleases me to hear it, little one. Your people will soon no longer need my guidance, and while I am aware you are unhappy with this news, your people must learn to stand on their own two feet. I will always be with your kind in spirit to smile upon you." I reply to him.

Just as he's about to protest... I wake up with a start. I glance over at my alarm clock, which reads 2:00 AM. "What the hell was that dream about?! It was like the one from the night before... only extended. Hell, I can still remember what I was thinking in it..." I say to myself quietly. Soon, I begin to suspect... "...Are these even dreams?"

A voice in my head whispers, All will be made clear in time. Rest now, child... It sounds so familiar, yet I find myself too tired to dwell upon it. As sleep overtakes me again, the voice adds, Our changes are just beginning...
