Link and Maple become friends?

In the original Zelda Oracle of Season/Ages, as far as I know all you do is bump into Maple and either complete a part in an item quest or a grabbing items mini-game. So how do they take the time to get to know each other, and yes this can lead to romance instead of just friendship.
