A muslim boy faces his worst fear when the Australian Secret Service summons him.
Chapter #1

Chapter 1

Ahreed Hussein was petrified. Sitting at a stainless steel desk, an empty chair opposite was the only other furniture in the brightly lit, windowless room. He'd been instructed not to look back at the large mirror behind him. For what seemed like hours now, he could still hear his heart pounding in his chest. Frantically he continued to try and think of some possible reason for his detention. What had he done? Who had he met? Was it someone he knew? Then again it might be Facebook, Twitter, email or a stupid text message to one of his friends.

He had not seen or heard of Baba, his dad, since that brief mobile call as he was taken from school. The day had started like any other school day, except after two periods of English he went to the school library during recess to work over a difficult, homework maths equation. His greatest fear to that point was his maths teacher, Mr Bhaduri in the afternoon. Though a fellow Muslim, Mr Bhaduri did Ahreed no favours. While working away at the back row of the library desks, Ms Cook the Librarian came over and asked him to go to the Principal's office after recess.

After he had waited outside the office for about ten minutes, he was summoned. Standing around the main desk were a man and a woman, talking to his Principal, Mr Waites. He had introduced them as Kirstin and Russell. Ahreed had noticed immediately that the man was much bigger than his Baba or his brother, Ahrou. The woman seemed young. Mr Waites had explained they were from the government and needed to speak with him.

They had talked to him about school life at the Kings School, his scholarship and his sporting interests. Then they began to explain about leaving, taking him with them! Immediately, Ahreed was alarmed. His Principal had encouraged him to call his dad, and Baba had simply said over the phone, "Trust me, my boy. Go with them. I will talk with you later."

You have the following choices:

1. The journey from Kings School to ASIO

2. Ahreed notices alarming events
