“I think I’d like to go to Alpha Centauri Bd,” you announce. “It seems like the best place to start exploration, since it’s so Earth-like.”
“Well, since this is so close to Earth, we’ll be there…,” Erin’s voice trails off as the engines start up and propel the ship forward extremely quickly, “almost instantly!” After a dizzying experience with the warp drive, you regain your senses and hear Erin finish her sentence. As the ship gets closer to the planet that looks incredibly similar to Earth, the computer explains a little more about your destination. “As I said before, Alpha Centauri Bd has a 60-40 percentage ratio of water to land, and its mass is 0.87 times that of Earth. You shouldn’t notice a large change in temperature from Earth, but you will notice that it is very sunny most all of the time. Also, there is a lot of vegetation, which you might want to evaluate as a food source for future humans or domestic animals. The dense vegetation can also supply a more night-like atmosphere, provided that you are in the right spot. Nevertheless, most of the planet follows what I said earlier with night being rare, if it comes at all. Alpha Centauri has ten continents, more than Earth, but the oceans in between the continents are smaller than the oceans on Earth. However, there are several sources of rivers that go through different parts of the continents, and there are more of these in the Northern than the Southern Hemisphere of the planet. There are some wild animals that reside on the planet, and they mostly congregate by the rivers, although some are more dependent on the vegetation, so they live further away. If I sense that you are coming up on one that I have in my database, I will let you know. All that being said, the animals are still not very populous, so you are not guaranteed to run into them during your visit. Well, I think that is a good overview of Alpha Centauri.
