This choice: Began to rain  •  Go Back...
Chapter #10

When it Rains it Pours and Thieves in a Tavern

    by: Unknown
Unfortunately you couldn't find her and it began to rain. The rain started with one drop that fell on your head. Fairly soon the rain started to come down hard and heavy. Consequently your feet were turning back into a tail. That also meant that your new brown pants were tearing to shreds.

"We have to get him out of the rain!" Gareth yelled to Naphtali.

"You don't have to tell me twice! We'll never be able to find his friend like this!" Naphtali replied.

As much as you hate to admit it they were right. Like this you could barely move on land and when your tail dried and turned back into legs your groin would be exposed again and you don't need to be told how embarrassing that would be. You were already kidnapped by pirates a day ago. You can't even get the horrible torture that they made you endure. Your now start to believe that this weather could be a sign that your mother is preparing the royal army. As you were being carried in Naphtali's big muscular arms you noticed that the seas were awfully rough.

This could be one of two things. One the sea warlock is has gotten his tentacles into some evil or mother is really ticked off and has declared war on the surface world. I have a feeling that by mid-tide tomorrow that she'll have those who have been on land to attack from land while the rest of the army would destroy the docks and ships.

You then notice the pirates carrying their merpeople prisoners out of the ship and into the Thieves' Guild. It didn't take too long for their ship to be swallowed by the waves. You then notice what appears to be Captain Crossblade cursing at the sea while standing at the doorway to the guild. Fortunately 20 merpeople were saved from more abuse, however many of them were now relocated to the guild.

Mother is so going to destroy this place. There are a few nice humans here, but knowing mother she'll want them all dead. Especially since I was kidnapped. If I can find Erin and warn her of the coming war, then we may be able to negotiate with my mother. Unfortunately mermaids have more say than mermen, even if they are royalty. That's also counting that the male to female ratio is almost even.

After twenty minutes of running through blinding rain the royal human guards reach the inn and head to their room. Your tail is immediately dried off and a sheet is thrown over your body as they transform back into feet.

"Stay there. Once this accursed rain stops I'll fetch a few more pairs of clothes for you. Usually there's no rain before the Golden Sword Tournament. Some people believe that if it rains before the Golden Sword Tournament bad things are bound to happen." Naphtali said as he stripped off his wet clothes and put on dry clothes.

It isn't until two hours later that the rain stops. It didn't take long for Naphtali to purchase you two pairs of new clothes and an extra pair of pants. You immediately slip on the pants. Afterwards your comrades take you to the inn's tavern. Once there you spot the same man and women who were in front of the Thieves' Guild this morning.

"I'm impressed Charlotte. You seemed to have outdone yourself deary. Not only did you get that mermaid's tears but you also robbed the Lion Warrior and his father. I have never pulled off such a feat like that. Most people I can rob, but you are truly gifted." The man said to the woman.

"I had tons of practice while trying to come here. I even stole this box from a sleeping dragon. It could've gone smoother if my old cloak didn't tear. Unfortunately they two day diversion I had to elude the dragon. The bad thing is I think he's still looking for me."

"You can only evade a dragon for so long. Those blowhards can even take on a human form." The man replied.

"I know. There was a man that I briefly passed by wearing armor that was similar to the dragon's scales when I was in the town in the mountains. Fortunately I had replaced my cloak at the time and the streets were full of people. Yet one glance at his eyes and it was easy to tell that he was a dragon. Yet he seemed to be concerned with a few other things as well and didn't look concerned."

"That's because it's close to mating season and hibernation, but you should never look a dragon directly in the eyes. They can easily read your mind."

"I thought that was a myth, Mathis."

"It's not, but enough of that Charlotte. I think we may have to run."

The two thieves realize that you and the guards with you were eavesdropping on their entire conversation. You and the guards approach the thieves.

"Lady Charlotte Everbloom? What are you doing with scum like him?" Gareth asked the thief.

"You really don't know do you. My parents were murdered by thieves and I had no choice but to become one myself! Those thieves stole everything from me! I'm only doing this for revenge on those parasites!"

You notice the man named Mathis turn pale as a ghost. Apparently he has a secret concerning this woman's parents. It doesn't take long for the woman to figure out that the man played a part.

"You were using me! We're supposed to be working together. Forget it. Explain it later. We gotta run."

"Not so fast. You two are wanted for multiple acts of theft. If you resist us then by royal decree by the king and queen we will have no choice but to give pursuit." Gareth said.

The thieves make a quick getaway, but not without dropping a few of their stolen money sacks, a necklace, and the box. You were about to give chase when you notice that it is raining. By then they are long gone.

"Drat! They escaped!" Naphtali yelled.

"I can't believe that Lady Everbloom would turn to a life of crime. I feel sorry for her, but that does not excuse her actions!"

You then pick up the ornate box and open it. To your surprise it was empty.

"Whatever was in the box is gone. I'm certain that no one would keep an empty box on their person."

Gareth quickly looks at the box.

"You're right Percy. It looks like it was supposed to have a magic bean inside that leads to the land of the giants."

"Land of the what now? Don't we have to apprehend those thieves?"

"Normally yes, but not tonight. It started to rain again. Let's just enjoy our meal." Naphtali said as he pulled out his own coin pouch.

"Gareth, we'll have to find Reymond Lionshield and give him this stuff. I'm pretty sure he and whoever owns this necklace will be looking for it."

"Agreed."

While you were enjoying dinner the two thieves were by the Thieve's Guild.

"Do I have to wear this stupid outfit. I look like a prostitute."

"But it looks so lovely on you my dear Charlotte."

"Whatever Mathis, but you owe me. Luckily I held onto this bean. After not selling it I may as well rob the land of the giants next."

"Mind if I come along. I've actually been to Gimunga before with my sister Gilda."

"As long as I get a 90% of everything we steal."

"No deal deary. I have what I came for and it is time that we part."

"No way mister. Are you really that much of a pervert to even thinking of touching my boobs."

"Actually That's not what I was sent to do, but we'll talk later."

The next day.
