Chapter #8

A Wish for a Contest

    by: Cardio Author IconMail Icon
Annabelle held the medallion and flipped it a few times like a coin, "Well I have an idea over who gets to make the next big wish, I wish that Tyler and I could have a contest. Winner of the game gets to make the next wish and the loser has to go along with them."

Tyler didn't have any real protest to what Annabelle just wished for and all of the sudden he looked around and saw he was outside on a nice sunny day. He seemed to be in the middle of a suburb on a sidewalk in front of some old looking houses. Tyler looked around at all the houses and guessed that it had to be the late 1800's, maybe early 20th century based on the buildings. Tyler was so interested in the landscape he almost forgot that he was in an entirely different body. Tyler looked down and was a little disappointed in what he saw he was a little kid, what more a little girl. He was wearing a plain white dress with long white socks and little black shoes that wear pretty scuffed up looking. Judging from how far he was from the ground he guessed he couldn't be older than 8. Tyler felt his hair and felt that he had two long blonde pigtails.

"Tyler?" A voice apprehensively called out. Tyler looked for the voice and saw a (fellow) 8 year old girl in a similar outfit but with short black hair with a white bow in it.

"Annabelle?" Tyler said and Annabelle let out a sigh of relief, "Yeah, it's me. I knew that the medallion would put us anywhere at anytime, but honestly I was assuming it would be a boxing match or something."

"Yeah, what kind of contest are we supposed to be having like this?"

"I think it's that." Tyler saw Annabelle point at Tyler's feet. Tyler looked down and saw some chalk box outlines, similar to ones he'd seen in really old cartoons. "Is that for...hopscotch?"

"I think so. It looks like that's what we're playing."

"All right, that's kinda interesting...do you know how to play hopscotch?"

"No idea Tyler, but it can't be that hard, we'll just, jump in the squares until we have a winner."

"And how the hell are we going to determine that?"

Annabelle giggled, "Sorry, hearing a little girl say 'hell' is funny. But we don't have to worry about that remember? The medallion will pick who wins and that person gets the wish. No pressure. I'll go first."

Annabelle proceeded to lift her dress a few inches and started jumping. Tyler shrugged and after Annabelle finished follower her lead, they didn't know if there was a special way to jump across, who did it first, or fastest, or there was some other crazy rules but they kept jumping across the chalk squares until they had a winner.
