Dr Sanaka left the room with Dr. Asuka Fushida and directly turned left on this level's hospital corridor, from where they weren't visible anymore.
Serenity turned her sight to the 2 remainings doctors, Watanabe and Ring, visibly having quite an argument.
- AHah! Jesus, you're such a creepy weirdo, Watanabe!, Serenity could heard some sarcasm coming from Dr. Sarah Ring.
Ring was a tough, independent, strong and intelligent woman, but also very stubborn and not particularly delicate with other human being, especially with those who dared opposing her opinions.
Doctor Sarah Ring was a young "prodigy" doctor from Australia, only having 25 years old (which is really young for an expert surgeon with many other hat in other medical fields) and also with many charms.
Naturally tall, topping at 1m80 (~5 ft 11 inch), dirty blond hair on ponytail, a nice subtle tan, long firm legs, bright emerald eyes, a slender "haute couture" model body, and a cold but charming (in a femme fatale way) face, the only things she would have naturally lacked was a modest set of discrete B cup breasts.
But not being afraid of self-modification, she put herself breasts implants pushing their size to a more generous D cup a couple of years ago.
Right after being graduated top of the class of a rich and famous private school of medicine, she got opportunity of a very well-paid job in Japan and moved on to work on Dr. Sanaka's team.
Sarah Ring was very bright and knew it perfectly. A good confidence on her capacities which lead her to be quite arrogant and despising with whoever not as talented as her. Having being raised by a strict demanding father, without any mother, on a rich respected family she grew pretty tough and got a hard but stubborn character. Tact wasn't a thing she mastered at all.
On many aspects, Sarah Ring could be seen as an arrogant bitch, but an intelligent and far from stupid one, and while she wasn't very pleasant with barely anyone, she wasn't also a fundamentally evil person. Maybe someone who missed some real daddy love from a very demanding father at a time.
Doctor Hisato Watanabe, as for him, was far less a glamorous and shiny person, quite the opposite actually. If Dr. Ring was the kind of pretentious full of self-confidence little genius who like to remind everyone her intellectual superiority, Watanabe, on the contrary, was a very discreet person, kind of socially awkward nerdy guy.
He never show-off his intellectuel, not because he was less skilled than his colleagues.
Actually, if anything, Watanabe's intellect was maybe even greater than both Ring and Fushida combined, even if it wasn't apparent on the first sight.
But unlike his colleague Sarah Ring who gave great attention to her looks and image, Hisato just didn't give a shit of whatever people think of him.
He hated talking much and never gave interest in humans and socials interactions. Something quite unusual for a doctor. He was a bit creepy to say the least, with his back always a bit bent and his gloomy eyes. Not completely his fault, as his own appearance wasn't really graceful.
He was a 1m65 (5 ft 5 inch) slim middle-aged japanese man, with deep dark messy black and grey hair, equally dark black eyes, alwasy tired with very visible shadows these eyes and a face that always naturally looking sad and tired, with a haggard face.
Dr. Hisato Watanabe always looked like he was on the edge of depression.
Maybe he was ? It was hard to tell as his face was so expressionless.
His colleague, Dr. Asuka Fushida always jokingly called him "Dr. Droopy" (in reference of that famous dog
of old U.S.A cartoons), in hope to bring a smile on his face. But he never really worked.
It's not that Hisato Watanabe was somekind of emo nerd of anything. He just was quite a socially inept person, quite emotionless robot. Dr. Ring calling him an "autist", the others prefering to refer to him as "just a complex mind". The only thing that seemed to interest him, apart his job, was a weird loves for insects and larva and his own research on molecular mutations, for which he demonstrated an unusual and surprising capacity of talking. He really loved his little bugs.
Serenity came closer to the 2 doctors, hearing more of what they were talking about.
Dr. Ring : You're gross you know that? I don't even know why you're talking to me about that. Yurk!
Dr. Watanabe : I'm just saying... Insects have... a lot to teach us... My mutation experiments shows great results... If only, maybe, I had those ¥2,500,000, my insects could show that...
Dr. Ring : Aaargh! Really ?! God!.... Do you really think anybody would waste his money for you and your horrible bugs, on your lame disgusting experiments ? You freak!
Dr. Watanabe : Well....
Dr. Ring : Come on! Keep it real, you creeps. You look like some lame crossover between Frankenstein's Igor and Lurch from Addams Family. Nobody sane would ever invest in you, even less an everyday teenage girl with ¥2,500,000!
Dr. Watanabe : If you say so....
The doctor Hisato Watanabe, slowly turned his back on Dr. Ring and started scribbling something on papers, and said
- One day, people will see the greatness of insect... I will show their power to the world. And with their powers, I will elevate the human to higher level.
I just need money ... and test subject... I'm sure this young girl would understand.
She would make an ideal test subject... If she want... I could make her so much better...
- Don't dare putting your disgusting hand on that poor girl and her money, you creep...
Serenity then interrupted the conversation between the weird man and the disdainful woman looking down on him with disgust.
- Hi ! What were you talking about ? ...
Dr. Watanabe slowly turned on his right to look at her, emptyness in his inexpressive black eyes...
Dr. Ring did the same, and with a smirk, told the young girl.
- Nothing my dear! Just a small talk between a brilliant mind and stupid delusional one in its delirium.
Watanabe looked at the tall australian doctor, frowning from the last sarcasm of an unending pile of sarcasm, not saying a word. He just sighed...
Serenity looked at the gloomy guy, and, sweet and kind as she was, suddenly had some pity for the sad-looking man.
She didn't know what all this was about, but she felt like this woman was unnecessarly rude with this man.
Looking at his natural sad-face, she felt like this guy maybe need some considerations.
- Oh... I see...
Just said the young girl.
Dr. Sarah Ring noticed that look on Serenity's eyes, and got circumspect about it.
<<Is she feeling some pity for that trash weirdo ?>> asked herself the tall blond, her eyebrow lifted, a skeptical look on her face.
She felt the need to make the situation clearer to the girl.
- You see, my dear little girl, my colleague over here... Great doctor Watanabe...
Believes the progress of science is in insect... You know... "bugs", cockroach, gross spongy larva and such... Is that right, Watanabe ?
- ...
The gloomy man didn't give any answer to that. He was just giving up, against the snobbish demon that could be her colleague on time.
Dr. Ring sighed to the lack of reply from the other doctor. She was despising so much his inaptitude to social interaction, even when it was about defending his view...
- Anyway!, the australian doctor kept going, My dear colleague here, thought that... MAYBE... you would be interest in giving part of your wealth to invest into his "bug" experiment.
What a stupid idea, isn't it, Serenity ?
Serenity looked again at the man. Damn, his face was so pathetic, it was so sad.
- ... I don't know, miss Ring...
She stopped, thinking of words to comfort the seemingly-frustrated man.
- I think... Whatever mister Watanabe is working on... I'm sure it will be very helpful to people.
The optimistic sweet girl looked at the middle-aged doctor.
Did she noticed the beginning of a smile on his face ?
Dr. Ring facepalmed herself.
- Huurrrr... Feeling pity for that looser, really ?! Such a naive girl....
That said, both Dr. Ring and Dr. Watanabe turned back and went both to deal with their work, both on a side of the room.
Serenity felt a bit embarassed from what just happened.
She decided to go talk a little more with them...
