She replies. by: Silver You walk in to see a number of professors working on whatever projects that have gotten them focused. Some go as far as being oblivious to his or her surroundings. You make your way toward the back of the lab, where you see a familiar face.
"Ah, Quinn." Professor Max said. He had been assigned to help Professor Elm with the studies on Mega Evolution. "I was hoping you would make it."
"Why were you concerned? I come by every day." You say as you grab a lab coat that's conveniently close by. The fabric was stiff as always. They're always cycled through as they get washed thoroughly. You imagine that the intense cleaning detergent from the wash room is what keeps the lab coat so stiff.
"Professor Elm is out of town for the month. He said that he was going to visit a friend."
"Who?"
"I don't know. He didn't say."
You wondered who Professor Elm found important enough to leave his work, and for that long. Another Professor maybe? After all, does Professor Elm have much of a social life outside of his work? As insulting as the thought occurred to you, he was always seen here and the only thing ever coming out of the man's mouth was words of wonders and theories. He did have a good sense of imagination.
"How far have you gotten?" You asked; changing the subject.
"Well, I can confirm one thing for sure." Max said. "There's a reason Mega Evolution was discovered in Kalos."
"Because the stones are only found in Kalos. Anybody sane enough knows that." You say. Professor Max grins. At first, you took it as him laughing to himself. A moment later, you realize he discovered something else. "What else?"
Max points at a screen close by him. "Tell me what you see."
"Nothing?" You say as you see the screen. It lists some scientific stats, but all register as negative or 0.
A slight shuffle catches your attention as you see Max touch the stone. Instantly, the screen comes alive with information. "The stone's alive?"
"Not exactly." Max explains. "It's merely asleep until a host makes contact with the stone."
"Host?" You ask. A thought of alien invasions enter your thoughts.
"Yes." Max said as he removes his finger from the stone. However, when you look at the screen, none of the stats change.
You stare blindly for a moment. "What does this mean?"
"Honestly, I don't know. But, this does explain why Pokémon mega evolve. The stones only allow the Pokémon to mega evolve if they're filled with happiness or joy. It's probably why the stones true power weren't discovered a long time after they were found."
"So, does that mean Pokémon can mega evolve on their own?" You ask.
"It's possible. The stones tend to react to each other when close by. I assume that the bond of the stones, or the Pokémon and its trainer, doubles the chances."
You can't help but smile on the discovery. Granted, it's hardly anything to get excited about, but it does bring hope to other possibilities. "What can I help you with?" You ask eagerly.
"I've got a task that I think you'll like." Max said as he retreats briefly from his studies. He grabs a file and hands it to you. "I need you to pick up a Pokémon from the Day Care for me."
This was pretty exciting for you. Throughout the years, you've yet to claim a Pokémon as your own. You've made various acquaintances, if you consider a Pokémon and human to share such a relationship status amongst one another, but between the Pokémon you see and home, the school, and the lab, they've only been brief. Only in your life long enough to serve whatever purpose set before them.
"Great! I'll get right on it!" You say as you head out.
"You don't need a lab coat." You hear Max say. At first, it didn't bother you to wear it. As you made your way outside, the heat quickly made you reconsider as you briefly go back to remove your coat. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
