The characters of John and Frank Parker and their wives are the creations of m2, from his story 'Head Swapping'. But it is five years later.
In the High Street, not far from the Wilko store, two tourists from the United States were taking in the sights. John Parker, 48, and his older brother Frank, 52, were on vacation abroad for the first time with their wives Rachel, 45 and Irene, 42. After much discussion about their destination, (the choices being France, England or Italy), the wives got their way, England it was. And it was several weeks since John and Frank had finally managed to correct most of the 'chaos' they had caused with their head swapping device back home. With the exception of a few individuals, everyone had got their own bodies back, including our two intrepid couples.
But it was Frank's idea to bring the device with them on vacation, and John went along with it. After all they had refrained from using it for a long time (except for the time Frank swapped with his unsuspecting wife in order to make sex a little more interesting for a couple of nights). Being the 'discoverer' of the device, Frank was pretty much in charge of it.
"Ya know we should have waited for them to get ready. They're pissed with us now" Frank said, eliciting a sigh from John. "I bet they still haven't left the hotel room yet" he then added, referring to their wives. Though 'hotel' was slightly misleading, since they had all checked into a little Bed & Breakfast run by a middle-aged Welsh couple.
"They'll probably want to go clothes shopping anyway" John responded. "And I'm not being dragged off to some mall while Rachel tries to pick out an outfit she wants to buy" he grumbled.
"Ya think she's bad? Go shopping with Irene then tell me who's worse!" Frank stated, shaking his head.
Both brothers then fell silent for a moment while they took in the sights. The town, Rotherham, was certainly full of foreigners, mainly other Europeans but also Pakistanis and Indians among others. That was on top of the local population. "Do they even have border control here?" John joked.
"I guess not!" Frank muttered. He then spotted a store a little ways down the street and drew John's attention to it. "Let's go in here, I need a drink of soda or something anyway, I'm parched" he said.
"I'm with you bro!" John agreed readily. And they went into Wilko.
After heading over to the nearest fridge to pick a drink, the brothers took note of the staff members, all wearing red blouses or shirts with the company name emblazened on the back. And the store was quite full of customers browsing assorted products, everything from paint to pet food, groceries to home furnishings. John tapped Frank on the shoulder and smirked. "You got the device with you?" he asked.
Frank gave his little brother a smile back. "I never go anywhere without it" he said, patting his pocket.
