Once again, you stare at the strawberry brunette, her short hair, into her emerald eyes. She seemed, the same, but somehow so completely different at her reduced size. She also seemed at a loss for words, still glancing around at the magnified landscape. It is utterly immense. The dirt feels more firm, the tread of her own boot she can see and it is massive, grass sways like trees...speaking of. She paused, her gaze rose past you, up the oak tree. "Whoaaaa..." She uttered, completely in awe of the now supermassive tree. Hadn't she climbed it herself with relatively minimal effort just a couple of days ago? This was becoming hard to comprehend.
You grab her arm again to return her to the insane reality she had decided to join. "Tara! You good?" She nodded, opened mouthed and still staring up at the tree. You glance around. The grass seems calm, but you're unsure of potential predators, other events that might occur after her reduction. It seems calm, but you need to move her somewhere safer. "Hey, let's go inside, just for a few minutes while you adjust. Shrinking can mess with people." She nods numbly, now staring back at where her tent was not long ago, imagining its immensity. You guide her to the hatch.
"Wow, this thing is pretty fancy." Tara remarks as she stares at the metallic door surrounded by concrete. "Not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but you design a micro habitat and get back to me." She smiles, "No kidding, you made this in your garage?" You admit with a bit of pride, "Yep, made it at 1/10th size with stuff you can find anywhere, then shrunk it down to my size." "Impressive" she says softly as you open the hatch.
As you both enter, the stairs leading down are the first thing she focuses on. "You even made little stairs!" You glance back at her, smirking. "Little?" She frowns back a moment, "You know what I mean." You laugh again, "Come on." She follows you down. As you both reach the bottom of the stairs you pass the berries stored in the chamber, she looks as them for a long moment, her first experience down at this size and seeing small chewable berries at her former size fascinates her. "They're so big. How'd you get these back here?" You sigh "Alot of dragging on an improvised sled. Had to kill a few ants to do it." You pass the berries through the secondary iron door and enter the main living area. Tara follows after a moment of staring at the berries.
She is seemingly less impressed with the living area, but you attribute that to the fact that it's the most normal thing she's seen in many minutes. Your kitchen, your couch, your living area through the next door. She assesses it with some impression. She then immediately runs to the large smartphone mounted against the wall. Reduced, yes, but not to your level. "Oh my god! What is this?!" You walk up to her next to the screen. "Standard smartphone, just reduced to an inch, not a 1/3rd. I use it for cameras, recording, emails, news occasionally." She rubs her hand along the screen as it lights up with a typical smartphone screen, causing her to step back a once or twice. "You can reduce things to different sizes?" "You think there's just two options?" She rolls her eyes. "I'm still kinda new to this sci fi, insane technology, give me a break." You nod, she isn't wrong.
"An you've lived here for months?" You look around a moment then nod solemnly. "Just you?" You pause a moment. "Other than the aforementioned dumb contacts, but yeah. Kept the family updated with, less than truthful accounts. But I think that was easier on them." She moves over the the kitchen. "Hmmm." You wonder about her tone. "Hmmm what?" Tara walks past conventionally sized objects, like the microwave and fridge. "I just think I understand you better already. Why you came to my tent." You aren't sure you're a fan of where this conversation is heading, "Well, fascination is a crazy thing. Makes us do crazy things. Like shrink ourselves." You level at her. She turns and looks, feigning indignancy. "I just wanted to do a quick tour. Then return to the land of the normal sized. Is that ok?" You aren't sure. She has no suit, no knowledge of surviving at this size. "It's dangerous out there. Really dangerous. Plus the machine will need about an hour to recharge." She smiles "My paper is near done. As long as I'm home safe by the end of the day, no issues." She really wants to see the world at this size. You ponder...
